March 1, 201214 yr Firstly I would like to say thank you for the efforts of the guys and gals who worked on this piece of software. Although not specifically my cup of tea it has brought a smile on my face today which is something fsx has not done in years (literally). I have been flying sims for years and like to do things properly (PMDG, Vatsim etc.) but decided to try out Flight today and I must say was pleasantly surprised with some aspects. For the first time in a while I was just aimlessly flying around on my own enjoying the scenery and the aircraft but ultimately I was having fun without trying to be so serious. I had earlier clicked on multi player to see how this was done but had forgotten to exit the multi player "game" I was in. I continued to fly around on my own in and out of trees and low over beaches when I turned my camera view behind me and realised I was being followed by at least 4 other aircraft. After working out what I had done "wrong" these new friends (complete strangers) and I flew around together with no comms or text we were just flying in-between each other enjoying the views and having fun for almost an hour. The feeling Flight had given me was something a sim hadn't done before, it was a truly great experience. A while later whilst in the same flight but with new and different flying "friends" I was having a conversation about flight in the text window with somebody flying next to me. I then noticed a conversation between two fellow aviators which opened my eyes to the other side of flight. All I can say about this conversation is that it involved banter about each others mother in bed. This then gave me the realisation that although Flight will draw a larger audience to the flight sim scene and therefore bring more money to add on developers who will in turn develop more add ons and maybe even a brand new sim someday Flight also brings certain gamers who are not so respectful or peaceful like the two gentlemen whose conversation I had witnessed (It was a lot more graphic and offensive than I have described). One reason I no longer play consoles on-line any more is due to the fact you get some unwanted people playing alongside with you which is something I had not experienced in a flight sim before today. My experience with flight today was something great but also a slight disappointment as I realised bringing more people to the flight sim community is largely a good thing but may also bring a few of the wrong crowd (but hopefully they quickly become bored of flying and revert to their previous title of choice)]I just thought I would post my thoughts on this new sim/game flying thingy.ThanksRich David Andrew - desert based - a330/350 rated.
March 1, 201214 yr Nice story! I agree with you completely. It's a fresh change from my bloated and slow FSX install! What you describe with the chat is just the sort of thing I was dreading. Give it time and we'll have 10 year old screeching down their mics like in Call Of Duty! March 1, 201214 yr What you describe with the chat is just the sort of thing I was dreading. Give it time and we'll have 10 year old screeching down their mics like in Call Of Duty! This is precisely why I never got involved in multiplayer... own teammates killing you... knuckleheaded kiddy conversations....And yet multiplayer is where I have the most fun... discovered by joining the MS RTRW... and have made some great friends in the process.P-12C's suggestion seems the only logical solution... but how many "good guys/gals" am I shutting out that way? Won't ever know and will just have to ask people I respect here to add me to their "friends" list.
March 1, 201214 yr Author Flying multiplayer with the "friends only" setting eliminates most, if not all, risk of offensive players being present.Right you are however out of the many people I know I am one of the few (if not the only) simmer amongst my friends. I prefer it this way as its something I enjoy without having all my mates there for competition :) online is not a major deal for me anyway but I will be flying Flight online a few more times I am sure. The other great thing with Flight is the emphasis on learning to fly correctly. The landing tutorial is constantly reminding the user to control the speed for a smoother landing and helping the user land smoother. This is a great thing for people who have not flown a sim aircraft before as they are being taught correct techniques to fly which is something I think previous MS sims have left out. I believe the tutorials used to be much more point at the sky to take-off and point at the runway to land but with Flight we are told to hold 65kts with correct RPM settings and so on.There is potential (If we get global coverage :Peace: )Rich Edited March 1, 201214 yr by richyboy422 David Andrew - desert based - a330/350 rated.
March 1, 201214 yr I like to have MP setup where I'm the host, as I have good bandwidth. If there is a "problem child" I'll go back to the menu and expel them from the session. BTW, "problem child" can denote any age, gender, etc. A couple of times during the beta I got crashed on purpose. Those two user are on my permanent ban list, that can be found as part of the Live screen. It's nice to see the interaction between users and I'll probably keep flying/hosting all while hoping to make a few friends along the way.

March 2, 201214 yr Ahh yes, it was only a matter of time. I too have had a run-in with immaturity in flight. I was doing a cargo mish, hauling 600 lbs of snakes to Oahu. As I was doing my takeoff checklist, some goof in a Stearman tried buzzing my plane and ended up barely clipping me. It didn't register as a crash, but the cargo became startled. After that I killed multiplayer as an option until I get a good list of friends who play Flight as well. March 2, 201214 yr Even though you can report users to LIVE, it would be impossible and not our job to report them all. Since the beta it was pointed out that Multiplayer definitely needs an overhaul. So I hope they do so before it becomes a real mess. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
March 2, 201214 yr I also had a good time on the multiplayer... I was having fun in the Icon while a P-51 was having fun seeing how close we could fly to each other... granted we were chatting on coms the whole time having a good laugh. However through other multiplayer games I do understand thata there will be people that won't be very nice.... however thats where I usually just boot them from the game after giving them a warning (considering I usually always host my own)Do we know how many people max can be in one session?
March 2, 201214 yr During Beta i did try once to give the devs a idea about adding another session that allows more than 16 pilots at a time (a unlimited session) this would be the equivalent of Vatsim in flight . now for any pilot to be able to enter this session he must first complete a few missions or challenges or just a lesson on how to navigate a more serious flight environment . If anyone up there got the point of my idea and spent time thinking about it , i dont know . I can imagine a more realistic experience where we can take the advantage of what flight offers as far as tuning the radio on unicom on any field and using voice to anounce your intentions that would be very nice .but the problem is that some new guys/girls dont know anything about what i just mention . I hate to be on final after flying a job and get hit by someone that only cares about knocking other pilots out . By the way Rich my gamertag its Holguinerito feel free to add me and we may be able to do some flying around the islands . Image removed as image is no longer available.

In this cases there is a UNICOM frequency that is used around those airfields for every pilot to announce their intentions and report their positions .Now we have a new feature in flight that allows you to lets say tune your comm radio to any frequency and if you talk in that frequency like in real life anyone thats in the same chanel can interact with you . so giving that option now we can simulate using the UNICOMM frequency . here in the US there are a few frequencys that are used for UNICOM , here are a few of the top of my head . 122.7 122.275 122.8 123.000 and 123.050 some other countrys use diferent ones. March 2, 201214 yr Thats good information to know :) Thank you!I didn't even realise I was on the UNICOMM station then in the game as I was voice chatting a bit with someone I was flying with.Must be the default channel the Icon was on.
March 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member TAB is an open mic to EVERYONE on the server. Shift-TAB will only open the mic to people tuned into the same frequency as your radio. Cool hay? The same thing happens in aircraft. Everyone with a headset can hear everyone talking. Only when the pilot presses a button (on the stick most of the time) does the radio transmit out to the dialed frequency (ATC, Unicomm exc.). When the pilot is keyed in, it does NOT transmit the passenger chatter. Its interesting how so many small features in Flight really echo real life flying. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
