March 1, 201214 yr For those still skeptic.Notice the working radios on the RV-6A. It must be in the future ATC would be implemented?. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3l8RjOOiHFA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hirL8mpHypU Free mind, young attitude.
March 1, 201214 yr It may or not be the correct procedure for that plane, but it doesn't make sense to me! Throttle to 12% before you turn on the battery? Why would you want fuel going to the engine before something that can generate an electrical spark? Seems kind of dangerous to me.Edit: Just found this, it's not proper procedure!!http://n1001wforsale.com/uploads/N1001W_POH.pdf Edited March 1, 201214 yr by tf51d Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
March 1, 201214 yr Moderator Fuel doesn't "flow" just because you've set the throttle to any position at all. Without the starter turning the engine, the fuel pump isn't doing anything at all.Does your car's engine do anything if you mash the pedal to the metal before starting it? Well, if you have an old carburated engine you might flood it because of the mechanical primer pump in the carb's bowl, but that won't happen with the Stearman... :LMAO: Fr. March 2, 201214 yr Still as I thought, according to the POH it's not proper procedure. The checklist you posted is for an RV-6. The one modelled in flight is an RV-6A.All aircraft, even those of very similar type, have different procedures. The Archer and the Warrior are both PA28 fuselages but have slightly different checklist procedures. Also, checklists differ from owner to owner or club to club for an aircraft of the same type. Checklists on GA aircraft are not as rigid as those in airliners, though even different airlines operating a 757 will probably have slightly different checklists for it.With regards to cracking the throttle open prior to start, that is normal. All aircraft are different. At my club we have four Warriors. Some start according to the checklist. Others may need a bit of extra priming or the throttle played around with while turning it over to get it to go! In my case, I didn't usually use partial throttle until just before start; but since I'm at a high altitude airport, the mixture knob always came back 1/2 to 5/8" right after start. And since I rarely got to low altitude airports, the mixture would never see full rich.....until the next startup. As far as the carb goes, it wouldn't make any difference, without the engine turning.
March 2, 201214 yr One thing wrong with the Stearman checklist is that is says to Throttle to 50%,and I believe it should say open 1-/4 to 1/2 an inch.Maybe someone here has flown it, and has the correct value. Edited March 2, 201214 yr by Kabronicus Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
