Just imagine what is going to happen when PMDG, for example, make their first XP exclusive aircraft.
How many years did it take them to develop a full PMDG jetliner for FSX? And FSX was very similar to FS2004 to develop for so it was not a full new sim. Im thinking its going to take them a year or two before the first exclusive PMDG jetliner is out. We will see what Flight has to offer by then.
Let me add one more - Outerra - so far looks very cool and perspective Whole world is included, so very it is good platform for seriouse avia simulator. I plan to bought it soon (beta stage now) and try to convert our FSX aircraft into.
I have been following Outerra for years. Great engine, but im waiting to see if anything practical can be developed from it. It takes more then just good scenery to make a sim.

True, but physics of their Tatra looks quite good to me, not airplane, but shows that guys understand what they do. Besides, if they would open it for 3rd part developers, make good SDK (as MS did for FSX) with such FLIGHT (mean "closed" ) it will be 100% success for sure.

Thats a LOT of "if's". From what I understand, Outerra is 1 man and he has not expanded. Im sure many people have offered to help, but he seems to have very little interest in making Outerra a big commercial product. Its this "go at it alone" stance thats really kept Outerra from progressing much. It takes a big team to make a proper SDK. Its not something some guy can just "whip up" and toss out there. I think your under estimating what it takes to program things.

Really one !? Hmm.. he is very cool! Those people should work in MSGS for FS12, lol... You are right, lot of things would be add starting with clouds and finishing with that SDK...P.S. Going out from Outerra - We are (3rd part developers for MS FS) in strange situation now, not nice, but hope not death... MS loved us with FSX and throw out with FLIGHT. What to do ? Stay with FSX, wait for FLIGHT SDK, switch platform, switch the job... that's hard choice...

Im not 100% sure if its still 1 guy, but its been just him for many years and he has done an amazing job. Ya. Its a hard choice for me also. Honestly im looking into switcing jobs. Im learning Zbrush and I think I will keep 3rd party devopment but only as just a hobby. Right now there is just not enough to keep my family going and I cant wait a year for Flight to "maybe" be supported. Not a lot of employers looking for aircraft artist's. Most of that gets outsourced now.

We might have to move the party. We don't want to. We are FORCED into it by MS. It's a shame.

Wikipedia says three of them... anyway it's not good enough for serious simulator as we imagine it. But who knows maybe tomorrow Google or EA or company like this will bought them and we'll have nice alternative... just dreaming :)

My apologies to n4gix. Just read the article in MCV, and sadly, I have to bow my head. I was so excited about the new flight and graphics engine and the promises, that I lost sight of reality.I spent 40 bucks already on Flight, and I do love it, but that's it. Going back to FSX and my PDMG aircrafts. Very sad day indeed.
I'm very glad that I'm one who reads an entire thread before writing any replies. It takes longer that way, but also frequently saves me from having egg on my face, over-reacting, or perhaps having to wind up banning myself! :lol:So, with that said I accept your apology. As other folks have already written though, it's not a binary choice! You can continue to use FS9, FSX, X-P10, and Flight...I make my living (such as it is) exclusively from FS9 and FSX development. If I don't let the existence of Flight nor my current inability to create content for Flight bother me, why let it bother you? :shok:

Having provided freeware content for a couple of years and being forced out now from the party...Simply does not feel right.

There is the open source flight sim project (Flight Tools?) but it will never be to the level of a commercial product, and XP still has not surpassed FSX.
I couldn't understand if you are talking about Flight Gear. If that is the case in a lot of regions FG is light years away from any other simulation. It's only problem is that is not so mainstream. For example the weather: http://www.phy.duke....al_weather.html or sky-dive simulation http://www.flightgea...-visualization/Even the addon development possibilities are better since the code is open source.

The Outerra demo is out, I posted it a few days ago here, and it gave me one of the most powerful OMG moments in sim flying I have ever had. My plane (engine off!) appeared over a mountain in the Himalayas and immediately dropped like a stone. I had to get the engine on and pull up and barely managed to, just skimming across a small flat zone with a tiny airport before zooming off into a valley with a drop straight down for what seemed miles. I actually got vertigo, and yelled out loud as that drop opened up.Whatever else, the countryside of Outerra has the greatest sense of depth, ever!!It felt like that scene in the empire strikes back when the snow-speeders are looking for Luke and skimming over those valleys. The same feeling of your stomach dropping. :PThere are always...... possibilities.http://youtu.be/SORo2DE94Mc

There is baggage that always comes with open source. While I love the concept, the reality is open source will never beat paid development. People always point to Android as an open source success story, but I dont consider it open source. Portions are open, but a good deal is locked. Plus when I think "open source" I think "free" and Android is anything BUT free. Without money, the drive to exceed is not there. You will get a hobbiest to donate some hours, but if you REALLY want to DRIVE development, you have some cash around. Its the carrot in front of the horse. From what I have seen from Flight Gear, its a good sim. It looks bad honestly, but im sure if fly's great. I havent seen anything of the UI, but I hope its not as bad as XP. The biggest problem with developing for open source is everyone expects everything for free. Thats not going to attract a lot of 3rd party dev's. Yes Android has a store, but the buy rate is just pitifull vs the iPhone or even WP7 since so many people who use open source expects everything to be free.
