That is just plain absurd. There is no way in the world that you could possibly need all of that hardware horsepower.

One thing for sure about that motherboard, it isn't about need...

Say you were building a home cockpit with 6 displays and FSX, with addons. Just think that everything could be installed on one computer with the power to drive the entire set-up.Never say never!

For one, a PC built around that motherboard would easily exceed 3000 bucks. And remember, FSX has shown little to no benefit from using those extra cores.

That's one sexy motherboard! It brings me back to the late 90's when dual CPU motherboards were considered the cream of the crop...

Do you think if you are building a home cockpit you are concerned with one computer at $3000+ or 2 computers doing the same thing at $1500+ each?

Yes. I live efficiently and attempt to save wherever I can. I do not waste were money doesn't need to be spent. You can build a rig with ONE CPU that will give you the same performance for half the price.

Jim's got it right. No, FSX cannot use all 16 cores efficiently (assuming you are using HT Xeons), but you need as much horsepower as you can muster for all the extra monitors and/or hardware. Believe it or not each piece of extra hardware requires CPU cycles and those that run their own background processes also require CPU cycles. And if someone wants to try it out, what's wrong with that?!?

Then they can declare their money well wasted!

Yes, but you are not a home cockpit builder, just a young person who enjoys FS on one screen with a controller and a few utilities running. Read about some cockpits that have up to 18 screen in use, 6 or more computers driving it all, life-like hardware plugged in all over the place, a cooling system to keep things running, and so on. Then you can see that maybe there could be a place for such a motherboard.

I remember reading a review of just Saitek's extra hardware in Computer Pilot and what it did to the reviewer's FPS.I don't have the article in front of me at the moment, but with 6 of the Instrument LCD screens, and the three other Saitek panels coupled with a Yoke, Pedals and Throttle brought his system to it's knees to where FSX was unflyable. In just a case like above (1 monitor with all of Saitek's Flight Hardware) it would be useful to have a motherboard like this one.

You hit the nail on the head. This board would be perfect for a cockpit setup where the end user wants to run 1-2 boxes rather than 4. Also the board is not aimed at the gamer community at all. It is mainly aimed at IT, folders, video editing, and developers.
