Microsoft Flight has detected a corrupted installation and will now exit

Featured Replies

Hi Kabronicus I did the complete uninstall and deleted all folders related to Flight, GFWLive and XLive before reinstalling Flight. When I started up Flight for the first time after this new install, there was an update for Live that I hadn't seen before, so I became rather optimistic about the ability to go on with my DLC's.But the result was the same as before: As soon as I had redownloaded the Mustang preview and it apperared in front of the hangar, I saw the "corrupted" message. Now I really don't know where to go from here, except leaving Flight until it matures.../Kim

Phil: I just bumped your answer to the beta site. You are not alone and some other guys still have your same problem. How annoying.A few running Windows XP64 have benn detected, but all others are wunning Windows 7.
thanks for your helping hand.IF it works I love flight. Actually did not touch and load FSX since release of flight, like the missions and challenges though they / ms should come out faster with DLC as flying cargo across hawaii is flying cargo across hawaii, regardless of how much cargo and where to. but the immersion is great, just flew along hana hwy to hana in foggy weather, just wow! only wish also that MS added some basic AP functionality like HDG hold and/or alt hold...

Do you want to hear something "funny"???Now I have installed Flight on my other computer, and I have been very careful about adjusting my GFWL Marketplace settings before attempting to download any DLC items. And guess what happened right after downloading the Mustang preview? Yep, the usual "corrupted" message! Now I've really had it with this fantastic piece of software...RegardsKim

If he is reinstalling/repairing from a corrupt install cab file, the problem will continue to exist - and that's what it appears he's doing ("I am sooo glad I saved one of the installer cab files for my repair attempts"). If, for example, a file within the Media1.cab file is corrupt, no amount of reinstalls from this cab will solve the issue. The only solution is to re-download the whole 1GB+ installation again.I found (again, in my situation only - this may not be valid for all cases) that a quick way to test to see if I had a corrupt cab file was to extract all the files within a given cab file to a temporary folder either using the in-built windows extractor or a 3rd-party extractor such as winzip. In both cases, extraction would fail when trying to extract the corrupt file within the cab file. Afterwards, just delete the temporary folder, as it's just being used to test the corrupt-file theory.
Guys, I really don't know what else to suggest at this time.I'll see if I can get a developer to give a suggestion./ fix

Hi KabronicusThanks, that would be nice :smile:/Kim

Hi guysI have been waiting for a few days now, hoping that someone would come up with a solution to this problem. Well, nothing much has happened, so I decided to do a little experiment. I went into my GFWL Marketplace settings and changed the DLC folder position back to somewhere under my "user account" folder on my C drive, and guess what happened when I started up Flight and redownloaded the Mustang preview?IT WORKED!Then some of you might think "YES, problem solved", but I am not so happy about this finding. It actually means that you are not allowed to make modified installations of Flight at the moment. It is OK to have the "core sim" installed on your S drive (or what ever you call your dedicated simulation drive), but all DLC downloads/purchases are forced to be on yor C drive under your user account, or they simply wont work! This should be corrected as soon as possible. It makes no sense not to have the ability to keep your core sim software and your addons in the same place. Remember that a lot of serious simmers have spent lots of money on buying seperate large or fast hard drives to get the best performance from their simulation software, and now they can't use that for Flight...RegardsKim

Hi Kim,Not sure what is going on with your install, why it would work by re-installing to your user folder for your addons. You actually can set it to install any DLC to another folder, or even partition/hard drive. When I first installed Flight, I installed it to another hard drive - my E: partition on it. All was well with the core product, ran just fine from E:. Then, when I purchased the Hawaii Adventure Pack, and the Maule, they worked just fine as well - and I had assumed they would automatically install into the same folder for Flight on E:, but upon checking turned out they had actually installed to my C: drive, rather than E. Now this I did not like at all.So, I deleted the Maule and the Adventure Pack, went into my settings for GFWL, and saw there I could change where any downloaded purchases would install. So I changed that to install to E:/Microsoft Games. At least they would be in the same folder on the same partition, as Flight is. Then my troubles really began. I went back into the sim, and although installed, the adventure pack did not show up, nor did the Maule. I really struggled getting that one fixed. What I ended up doing was a couple of things, not sure which did it but something fixed it - I went back into my appdate folder, and deleted the Microsoft Flight folder, and then I redownloaded and installed both addons, only from GFWL with the sim closed, not from within the sim. After that, all was well. Now Flight, and my addon DLC folder, resides under Microsoft Games on my E: Drive. Under my Microsoft Game folder, I have two folders, one for Fliight , and the other a folder named with a sequence of numbers, which is my DLC installs. One could also set it to install inside the Flight folder itself, I just chose to have it outside of the Flight folder, but within the Microsoft Games folder to have it close by.My recommendation to anyone desiring to install Flight and DLC outside the program files folder on C:If it is your initial install - Go into Games for Windows Live settings, there you will see options on where to install the game and any purchased DLC. ONLY download and install from the GFWL menu, especially DLC. I would not recommend choosing to purchase DLC from within the sim and downloading from there, it can have glitches, especially in regards to where it installs the additional content, I think it will automatically go to your C: drive.Kim I think the above is maybe what happened in your case,.. as it was probably what happened in my case as well.If you want to remove Flight and DLC because either one is installed on C in your programs folder, delete the DLC from within the GFWL menu. If you also need to remove Flight, remove it from the add/remove programs menu in Windows.Go into GSWL Menu, set your preferences on where to download/install first, then have at it. Verify it installed to the correct location when done.Hope this maybe helps someone,

Hi Kim.Don’s solution seems to work fine. I also have Flight, its DLC and all other GFW Games installed on drive D:(Whithout knowing the "paths" mightmare, that is exactly what I did when the beta ended, I followed the beta romoval instructions, changed the paths on GFWL Client and then installed everything from GFWL Marketplace. I only started the Flight RTM after all downloads where completed.)On the other hand, I didn’t post a solution or more suggestions to you, as I have yet no more info or feedback from the beta site.

Hmm, guess one can't edit their post after a certain period of time.Regarding my last post above on reinstall recommendations, I am adding " Also go into your appdata folders under your user name on C:, both roaming and local, and delete any Flight folders within the Microsoft folder, along with it's contents.", be sure to do this after uninstalling the Flight program in Windows... I think this is a pretty important step to avoid conflict with any reinstalls! If you want to remove Flight and DLC because either one is installed on C in your programs folder, delete the DLC from within the GFWL menu. If you also need to remove Flight, remove it from the add/remove programs menu in Windows. If you remove the Flight program itself, go into your appdata folders under your user name on C:, both roaming and local, and delete any Flight folders within the Microsoft folder, along with it's contents. Of course you would lose any progess/ customized xml files, etc. If you need those, save a copy somewhere outside those folders prior to deleting.Go into GSWL Menu, set your preferences on where to download/install first, then have at it. Verify it installed to the correct location when done.

Have you considered the possibility of relocating your entire Appdata folder to your "high performance" drive? Instructions are here: http://www.windows-c...a-location.htmlCAUTION: I have moved other system folders but I have never moved Appdata, so I am unaware of any problems which may occur. Attempt at your own risk, and make a full system backup first.

Hi DonI have followed your instructions and used the GWFL to remove my DLC. Then I removed Flight itself from the add/remove programs menu in Windows. I cleaned up all Flight folders under my user account. Then I reinstalled Flight and the Maule preview via my GWFL, but when I started up Flight, I immediately got the famous "corrupted" message as soon as it had finished loading content. It just can't be true that it should be so difficult to make this thing work.../Kim

Kim: I don't know it you have seen this or if it will help youBeta ininstall instructions:

Before you install the final version of Microsoft Flight, please make sure that you uninstall the beta by following the instructions below:· Uninstall Microsoft Flight from the Add/Remove Programs screen· Delete the following directories (if they exist). Navigate to them by pasting the paths given below in the address bar of Windows Explorer:· %UserProfile%My DocumentsFlight· %LocalAppData%MicrosoftFlight· %LocalAppData%MicrosoftXLiveDLC4d5308d3 ( <- This one is specially important to remove. Number might be different from beta My Note.)· %AppData%MicrosoftFlight
(Oops I saw I already posted part of this, sorry)Important the roots of the new paths must not be the root dir on your drive no "D:" make it something like D:GFWsee this: http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2286236After that, I did the Path changes and reinstalled, just as Don said, from the Marketplace.

Thanks a lot for this topic and your suggestions. I've had the same problem like Kim and now Flight and Addons works fine - both on my F: partition! Clean removal of Flight and new insatllation via GFW worked for me. Thanks again.

Allways three greens,
Markus

Dang Kim, I feel for you - you have been struggling with this for some days now.I know that has got to be extremely frustrating.Sorry my suggestion did not do it for you - whilst mine was a little different issue, I was hopefull it might take care of yours as well.Hopefully Ramon's additional info might be of help for you , if not maybe he will get more feedback from the team off the beta forum.Have you sent an email with all the details to the Flight team?I hope this gets resolved for you soon - looking forward to seeing a post from you stating IT WORKS!Best of luck,

Don B
