Terrain Mesh.

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone. If you take a look around, there are, apparently, quite a few land textrue and mesh add-on's you can get. Currently I use FSGenesis North America West, East, Canada, Mexico and World. Are there better ones out there? I mean ones which may replace the textures of the actual ground to ''look better'' vs just the terrain mesh? If I understand it right, the mesh only adds to the points in elevation? I've looked at some of the suggestions in the forums like the GEX pages, the REX pages and not only do the sky's look GREAT, but the ground looks wonderful as well. My sim doesn't look like that... :) I'm wondering what I am missing.Currently my PC basics is as follows...32b Windows 7Quad Core Q6600 2.6GGforce GTX 550 TI4G of DDR 3 Ram5500 rpm 500g DriveIf there is some things I should be looking at, please give me a heads up. Thanks in advance!EDIT: I guess I am kinda looking for an all in one type package. I don't particularly want to buy 100 different items to get a world texture set, I would prefer one package, regardless of overall cost.

FSGenesis is the go to mesh. It's the most accurate and least flawed. Also use the FSGenesis US landclass.GEX is THE texture solution. There's much more to it than just textures. Autogen is reworked and better placed, among a few other things. You were unclear. Are you using GEX?If you want accurate roads, railroads, etc, UTX is a must. There isn't really any option for mesh, textures, and roads in a single package unfortunately.

No, I am currently NOT using GEX. But if it is the go to texture add-on, I will be soon. :) I just don't like the "bland-ness" (if that is even a word... :() I am seeing ATM in FSX. I am not sure how much I need accurate roads and what not, but I'll take a look at UTX as well then. I'll have to add the FSGenesis Landclass as well. That seems like a great addition. I am happy to know I DID manage to pick up the go to Mesh. :( So I am seeing then I need to get at least one more thing with GEX and maybe then UTX. Should that complete the ''look'' I am wanting in the sim then?Oh.. I am seeing there are a few GEX products available... Do these cover world wide if you get all seven? I see there is a ''pro'' verison for FS 2004 that covers the globe... Wonder if they have an FSX Pro versoin. :PFor Clouds and such I should be looking at REX then as well correct? Thanks for the input! :)I'm looking at the screens for REX and see the textures on the ground... This is what GEX does for the sim? If so... I'll be on it TODAY! :(

Ok... I was just watching this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOnXE5rFoTIWhich, is supposed to be using UTX, GEX and REX... If this is the case, I HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT! Holy!! I'm thinking that is all I would need with maybe Flight Environment added in as a final option? That looks spectacular. Combined with FSGenesis Terrain mesh and land class I think I'd be done. :)

I will second all of these suggestions, I use all three. However, I prefer the UTX landclass over the FSG, have tried both, just a personal preference. The FSGenesis terrain would probably be better named as "topography".

UTX isn't just roads, its also coastlines, rivers, streams, ponds, lakes, railroads, beaches, golf courses, glaciers, parks, cemeteries, rail yards, tunnels, night lighting, and more. You can get UTX and GEX at Flight One, and they work well together. The FSGenesis is a lot of hefty downloads, but they will send disks if you prefer.

Yes indeed, I run UTX, GEX, and REX2 - and that is pretty much what it looks like. Really transformed FSX for me!I run FD Genesis mesh as well.

Well, it would appear I have three or four more add-on's to pick up... Do any of you recommend flight environment to go along with these as well? Thanks so far for the suggestions!! :)

Hey man yea these addons are really nice...but don't get fooled by alot of FSX youtube videos because alot of them are enchanced and edited using Sony Vegas and other tools. FSX will never look like some of those vids actually ingame.

Oh good grief guys.... That's a lot to take in. :) Looking at some of these add on's for scenery ect, how do they impact FS in terms of FR? I run rather good in the 30's with things just about maxed out in the base sim. Will I be looking at a performance hit, if so, is it large? Just curious. Anyway, thanks a lot for the info and heads up on the products. I'll be looking into some of them very soon. :)

You're looking at the right products. I use them as shown in my sig, and LOVE how FSX has been transformed. I also have some MegaSceneryEarth regions for areas of interest and a handful of payware aircraft. For me, this is close to being "as real as it gets". GL and enjoy!
