March 27, 201214 yr I believe it is 6 - the one where you have to land on the strip at the top of the observatory - in like 60kt winds. You gotta be kidding me!I just made my first attempt - could not even find the strip before the wind slammed me into the side of the mountain. There for a bit, I was doing nothing but going sideways! March 27, 201214 yr Here's a tip. After loading, put throttle to full, set flaps to full, and make a wide turn to line up with the patch. Then at the final 5 secs before landing, throttle to idle and put it down. (You may end up landing backwards). Hold the brakes as you land. March 27, 201214 yr yeah, some of those challenges are killers. One of the last Stearman ones, by the treeline, that's bad enough! If you don't miss the strip, you can easily hit a tree or many, or just overbrake and go nose-down. But teaches you to be very gradual on the controls Simmo W, Melbourne, Ozhttp://www.youtube.com/user/id5556
March 27, 201214 yr Just managed to get gold on that one last night.......after many many attempts over the last few weeks.I managed to get gold in all (Icon, Stearman, RV-6, Maule) the landing challenges now except for the Maule No 4 & 5. Only silver so far on those 2. Still trying though.Fred. Frederic Steiner.
March 27, 201214 yr Did you practice a lot Fred? It seems like you did. Is it for the achievements and Microsoft Points or just for the heck of it? Alex Leung Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate Glider & Private Pilot via Royal Canadian Air Cadets
March 27, 201214 yr Wow Fred, well done, that would take a lot of effort and talent. If I had more time, I'd repeat, but just too many things to distract me. Just the challenges alone should keep me busy until the next addon. Ha, OMG, I think he's done it just to brag! I would too. I've got a couple of silver and one gold, just rapt to get those. March 27, 201214 yr I havent tried any of the Maule landing challenges because basically when I am behind the yoke, my Maule (nicknamed *$%@!) refuses to do anything that could be considered safe landing let alone soft landing. I know its me and not the plane but I will still call it an expletive each and every time we meet, even after I ave conquered the damn thing.
March 27, 201214 yr Author I hear ya guys, this one is going to be quite tough!Congrats on getting the gold on that one Fred, I can't imagine. Thanks for the tip Alex - will certainly keep in mind the next time I work up the nerve to try again! Don B

March 27, 201214 yr Author morning don. early bird over there, um? did you get your coffee already?Good morning Phil,Lol , yeah - about to go get my second :smile:Can't quite sleep all night during this recovery so far, I did go to bed a little earlier last night as I was just exhausted - got more sleep than the night before though, yesterday was not a very good day...I will be so glad when I get fully recovered. Seems like I have been in such pain for so long it is hard to remember what life is like being without it - that part I can't wait for! Don B

I know its me and not the plane but I will still call it an expletive each and every time we meet, even after I ave conquered the damn thing. The big problem I had adjusting to the Maul in the Flight challenges was actually setting my joystick dead zones up properly!Once I realised that the horrifically twitchy nature was mostly down to no default dead zone on my rudder in-app and the fact that I was slewing all over the place even when I thought I was pointing straight, I messed around with the Logitech 3D profiles and came to a setting that made smooth, controlled flight far more achievable! Cheers! Iain
