March 28, 201214 yr I splurged and finally got into the group and bought XPX.. I have been reading a lot about the sim, watching videos, who knows how many pictures and check the Dev Blog almost daily.. I have an older computer so i don't expect to be maxing out stuff for a while (new computer is the next step)..From what i have seen it appears as if the sim has a GREAT foundation.. With the streets/roads/highways i think that will be a real improvement over my FSX.. One thing is that it has unlike FSX these roads will actually have traffic on them, and thats without an addon..This will be a great effect when coming in on final and crossing a highway just before touchdown.. I am also looking forward to the WED being released.. I think when this happens the custom objects will explode (correct me if i'm wrong)..Anyway, it should be here next week, and i am really looking forward to not having to restart every 15 minutes.. And having scenery for where i live..
March 28, 201214 yr Hi.Like you, I also recently purchased for the first time XP, the version 10.Actually also FSX had road traffic AI, but surely in XP-10 the feature is more developed, and particularly spectacular at night.I am still studying the manual of the program, also to understand the differences with FSX.Just one tip for you and the new users: one thing that I really like in FSX is following my flight on Google Maps on a second monitor by means of the nice freeware Plan-G program. Now I find that a similar thing is possible in XP with the freeware FSW GMap, so at present I am quite happy with my new purchase.Today I also learned how taming the terrible helicopters :-)A.
March 28, 201214 yr ...one thing that I really like in FSX is following my flight on Google Maps on a second monitor by means of the nice freeware Plan-G program.I think Tim Arnot is developing PlanG for X-plane. Keeping an eye out for that one. I'd love Aivlasoft EFB to get on the XPX band wagon too in future, I absolutely love that program!CheersRhydian
March 28, 201214 yr You can also hook up to quite a few fsx progs using XPUIPC as a direct FSUIPC replacement interface. FSCommander works this way as does Project Magenta and Sim Avionics to name but a few. Keeping an eye out for that one.Hey, thanks for the tip!I read some time ago that there were no plans to directly port Plan-G for XP, but now instead it seems that Arnot is working just on that. Very interesting, I think it could really add another nice piece of functionality to the XP ecosystem.A.
March 28, 201214 yr Plan G works pretty well in X Plane 10 right now just as it is. Notice in Oklahoma City, the lakes are not completely developed althugh Overholser and Hefner are there so if you fly out of Wiley Post as I do, you are pretty well set there. If your roads are set to tons, you can see where Draper Thunderbird and Arcadia are, by looking at where the streets end. :( Hint, look in the local map, you will see where these lakes should be. :( Donald E. March 29, 201214 yr Author So the outlines (perimiter roads) are here for the other lakes, just the bodies of water themselves arent?? How about the North and South Canadian?? How do the major highways look.. I am sure the crosstown is still the original.. Also, is downtown and expressway airpark still there?? They havent either one been active for years..
March 29, 201214 yr No, Yes, and yes. The Canadian rivers aren't there for OKC but if you get north a ways it shows up, I haven't looked south of Norman yet, go up to Guthrie and the Cimmarron is there. There are some lakes around OKC, for instance the lake at the OKC Zoo is there, easily seen just East of I35, and North of I40. Crosstown is the original, but I see in OSM the new crosstown is in, so the next time LR updates the OSM terrain, we should get a plausible and better look at OKC waterways. I have put in a couple of small residential lakes to OSM myself, jus to get a little practice. At the ton setting for roads all most all if not all streets are there for OKC and the suburbs. I haven't looked at Mustang, but I can easily find my street and a house that is in the exact spot of my house. Pretty easy to fly OKC area if you know the major streets. There is a building where the State Capitol is, of course it doesn't look like the capitol but there is a building there. The major highways look pretty good, however the Interstate signs are not right, I44 signs are for a different highway system, I don't remember now what they said, but they were not interstate highways around here, I usually don't fly that low. :( Donald E. March 29, 201214 yr Do you need to have FSX installed, in order to use PLan-G with Xplane? The last time I tried it, I was stuck where it wanted to build a data base and only gave me choises of FSX and FS9. I dont have either installed anymore.Rob
March 29, 201214 yr I think currently you do have to have FSX installed, as it builds its database from that sim. The developer has stated earlier that he is going to make it able to export a X-Plane flight plan, but I don't know if it will read X-Planes database or not. Donald E. How can I connect the program with my X-Plane 10?A.

The developer has stated earlier that he is going to make it able to export a X-Plane flight plan, but I don't know if it will read X-Planes database or not.I posed the X-plane database question to Tim (Plan-G fame) a few weeks ago, he indicated that his Version 3 of Plan-G will be able to read XPX database.I would encourage all users of XP-X to update Open Street Map by adding missing lakes for your area, or even increase the accuracy of your known local roads. It just a matter of registering for an account and then learning OSM, it kind of a fun thing and will help XPX in the future.Chuck Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700KF CPU @ 4.90GHz 32.0 GB RAM Windows 11 Home NVIDIA RTX 3080Ti 12GB Multi monitors WD SN850 M2 2TB PSU 1000W. 360 AIO.cooling.
March 29, 201214 yr Author To WB5..Have you ever ventured into adding custom objects/buildings into XPX?? I have read some people saying it is very easy and some say it isnt so easy.. Are we waiting for WED 1.2 still?? Or can we use an older one??
March 29, 201214 yr I have been using the overlay editor, which works pretty well. I am not an expert at it, but it took about 10 minutes to figure out how to use it. I put a building for the Devon tower in place with it, (not the actual model of the Devon, but a generic TALL building in the exact location. :( I am not a scenery guru, and don't work at it very much, perhaps later I will do more work. Of course as in most other things, the more you use a tool, the better one gets at it. I have also used SketchUp to get buildings from the Google warehouse, (The State Capitol is there, but you have to do a lot of texturing, which I haven't yet done.), and of course I have used OSM2xp, but the OKC is not well represented in OSM, many buildings are not there, a few are, downtown Bricktown, is there somewhat, but out along the NW Expressway, nothing shows up. I don't have time for a screen shot, but perhaps later I can put up a screenshot to demonstrate the OKC area. Donald E. Donovan Flying is the 2nd greatest thrill known to man The 1st is landing.
March 29, 201214 yr Author That would be great.. I would love to see how OKC looks.. I have been toying with SketchUp and using the google warehouse also.. The Capitol looks really good, with textures and all in SketchUp just not sure what happens after that (the export process).. I mean do you have to re-do the textures to get them to appear in XP??
