Mobile Site Issues

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm having some issues regarding the mobile site. First, I can't switch to desktop view. It just reloads the page. Second, I can't view a post's reputation.

Thanks

I am on the iPad and I can't switch to the desktop version, it just reloads the mobile version which is frustrating! I hope AVSIM get this fixed soon.

This has been an issue for sometime. The author of the module has not upgraded his module to work with the current version of the forum software... I am just going to shut it down.

Does that mean I can only use the mobile site on my iPad or will I be able to just use the desktop version?

You could use a third-party browser (such as the free version of the Mercury browser or iCabMobile if you want a paid app) and change the browser ID to a desktop browser. That should display the desktop version.

Yep, that's what I do on the nice ol' iPad. Just downloaded a freeware browser called Mercury and it seems to do the trick. Although it HATES the WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) interface of the post (ie changing font, using smileys, etc). I'm still experimenting with other apps to see which one plays nice.

Sincerely,

Chase

Same here. just dropped in free Mercury and it works fine - and a much more flexible browser than Safari.

Is there any way AVSIM can turn off whatever is redirecting iPad Safari to the Mobile version of the site and leave that choice to the user?

I always use my iPad at home and hate when sites assume just because I am on an iPad I need to be sent to a mobile site or worse forced to use an iOS app, more and more the iPad is replacing what laptops and netbooks were used for around the house and on wifi we have the same screen size and bandwidth that laptops do, so don't need the reduced functionality of the mobile site.

It sounds like others are using alternative browsers to get around this so that the web site doesn't recognize the Safari/iPad browser header and do the redirect, but I would think the same thing would be possible by just disabling the redirect for the iPad Safari browser header server side?

Thanks in advance for looking into it, otherwise I will also look for some client side options to fool the server into thinking I'm not coming from an iPad. As always we appreciate AVSIM and the excellent support, so much so that we want to see it in full desktop glory :D so don't take this as a complaint :D

By the way I am able to confirm that if you have a jailbroken iPad, "User Agent Faker" tweak works great to be able to surf AVSIM in full mode without being redirected to the mobile mode.

The front page has the same issues the forum has when accessing via an iPad. The full version access link is broken. The mobile version of the site is cluttered and disorganized. If Avsim thinks this is an improvement, then I will not be using the site anymore.

Marty,

First, hello neighbor. I am in your neck of the woods.

Second, please please please -- give us some time to iron on the kinks. With any upgrade anywhere for anything, there's going to be a buggy start. The very best we can do is track the issues, work on solutions, and make improvements.

Sincerely,

Chase

Chase,

Being an IT professional, I know that when you have a software release, you do not take existing funcationality away from your users. This IP type board software is used by Aerosoft and mobile access there is fine. A mobile user can also choose to access the site/forum via the full site. Why can't Avsim make this possible?

They are probably not running the same version of IPB as us. We have the newest most recent version running. There are still bugs being worked out in it, and this happens to be one of them.

Sincerely,

Chase
