April 5, 201214 yr I fly mostly on VATSIM as well, because the areas I like to fly (Scandinavia and USA) have better coverage on VATSIM. I know that some areas have better coverage on IVAO tho. Johan Pettersen
April 5, 201214 yr Well...as you already found out yourself unfortunately TeamSpeak must be installed on the same PC where you have IvAp UI installed and of course this becomes a problem when you have the voice edition of FS2Crew installed on the FSX PC. I guess you might be able to solve it by splitting both your headset and mic betweeen both computers if you find the correct cables for it but I took the easy way out and solved it by using a small external mic that came with an old TomTom GPS unit. This mic has a clip attached to it so it's very easy to attach it to the existing mic boom on my headset. I then connected this extra mic to my FSX PC. This works pretty OK, only problem I have is sometimes it's a little bit hard to hear what the FO says if he speaks at the same time as ATC is speaking and especially since the FO voice is coming from the same speakers as FSX and the ATC through my headset but I solved this by decreasing the ATC volume in my headset as much as possible but of course so I still can hear what they say Isn't that covered by the use of the 'mute' function for Fs2Crew, coupled to your send-button of Teamspeak? Hello, coverage isn't all, i can say that because i had flown in both nat's before. vatsim controller are a lot batter, they know that theyr'e talking about, evry time i get SID, STAR from them, it's actually what they use the current time at real world, and the ATIS, there's ATIS! at IVAO i can't remmember one time that i heard ATIS... all in all, i strongly recommend vatsim, it's very realistic, i love flying every second there. also very important thing, as i am flying in the UK, they have a an amazing coverage, almost every night it's full there. April 5, 201214 yr Isn't that covered by the use of the 'mute' function for Fs2Crew, coupled to your send-button of Teamspeak? Using the soft mute function in FS2Crew and assign it to the same button as PTT in IvAp is great as long as you have both programs running on the same computer. Problem is when you're running FS2Crew on your FSX computer and IvAp (and TeamSpeak) on a second computer. I also tried both networks and I also noticed ATC coverage might be better on VATSIM in certain regions. What made me stick to IVAO despite this is how hard I found it to be to get the correct liveries installed and to be displayed correctly for surrounding online traffic. In this regard I LOVE IVAO where you simply run the MTL installer and everything is installed and setup automatically for you.

I think many of us often spend more time trying to set everything up rather than actually fly

Uhhh Daniel! You hit a soft spot right there! I know this is an aged discussion, but when I hear statements like this I really have to chime in, I hold C3 rating and +1000 hours on IVAO, and I hold (I forget how many, but way less than IVAO) +500 hours on VATSIM. They are equally bad and good! I've had the most amateur experiences on IVAO and VATSIM, and also the most proffesional and stunning on both. You really must not generalize like that in my opinion. I shif between the two networks sometimes several times a dya when flying, and sometimes forget which one om logged onto, because procedurewise, they are the same - it's the same real world they are trying to simulate. As far as ATIS goes, IVAO does the lack the feature of VOICE ATIS, but in return, you cannot hold a position on IVAO without creating a writting ATIS. That's something you definately CAN do on VATSIM. How many times I've flown into a controlled station on VATSIM, where there was no ATIS info created... I really think they are equally good the two, and for the love of Pete Dawson, I can't understand why people doesn't use both - TWICE THE CHANCE OF ATC COVERAGE. I allways fire up IVAO Eye and VATSPY, and I log on the what ever can give me ATC coverage - as simple as that. I hope I'm not starting a flame war - and all of the above is said in most joyfull tone ever - whatever makes a simmer happy makes me happy ; ) ;) @Richard - thx for your PM and answer here - I'll spend the lousy 180 Dkr on the splitters and extensions, and give it a go - happy easter - or GOD PAASKE! April 5, 201214 yr i do fly on ivao but problem is ivap that takes at least 10 frames (which lets my fsx drop into the 10-20 fps range) otherwise i would have a stable ngx 30pfs+ system. i flew 4 times since my last reinstall and it crashed twice.. but i guess it was more likely a problem of ivap. lets face it, its not very stable (on some computers, not all) Tebin Ulrich
April 5, 201214 yr Ulrich, try the external version, on my rig it is much more stable then the internal version. John Rubens
April 5, 201214 yr good luck with your natwork carear, i will always prefer Vatsim, but good luck mate. I can hear sarcasm when I read it you know - but I can take it ;) I also prefer VATSIM because of the coverage in Scandinavia, but I will always use both, because I prefer IVAO with ATC coverage vs. VATSIM without coverage - get my drift? But enough said on this ;) Mas Martin Jensen
April 5, 201214 yr Author IVAO is much better than VATSIM, apart from many people say opposite of my statement...:)
