June 5, 201214 yr Hello I will not stay that way for long, the new library will be implemented whether the users like it or not. The management are free to do whatever they want, it is their toy box after all. But I would advise them to keep a keen eye on the numbers of users logging in compared to other sites, Flightsim.com springs to mind, it seems their user base has been growing a lot recently and now usually has more concurrent users logged on than Avsim. This surprised me as I always thought of Avsim as being the most popular. Regarding the new library, please see Tom's post here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/375784-why-are-all-topics-gone/#entry2385411 and the rest of that thread.
June 5, 201214 yr Hello Well done to Tom and John for posting that. What Avsim needs now more than anything is a period of stability, the changes have been too frequent and the site gained features but has lost nearly all of the visual simplicity that made it such a nice site to visit. For myself I am going to take a break from the site for a while, after visiting here every day since 2004. Time to have a look around the web and get a feel for the other sites that make up our great community.
June 8, 201213 yr I'm another of those fuddy-duddys that repond to change slowly and awkwardly, but having said that, I will get used to it. I understand the need to update systems to keep them current, I thank all those involved for their commitment to maintaining this site for the FS community. I come here not because I like the looks of the main page, but for access to news and reviews, the forums, and the library. Keep up the good work. Thank you.
June 23, 201213 yr In general, I like the new look, but mostly agree with the first few commenters. Everything, from the fonts to the size of a message post is over-sized - like you are trying to accommodate the poorly sighted. Change the style sheet and reduce everything by a factor of 25%, all the browsers now have magnification tools for those with poor eyesight. In the forums, please limit the size/height of the signature line - it is tiresome trying to read a thread that is largely made up of one- or two-word posts that are accompanied by eight or more lines of signature. I'M NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR SYSTEM SPEC'S OR HOW MANY ADD-ONS YOU HAVE! I am interested in problems you've had and/or found a solution for. If you're asking a question related to your system, then include the specs in the post. The "Thanks for the update!" and "Great news!" type posts posts are completely redundant and add no value - enforce a minimum message length. </soapbox>
