  1. Ho-hum, just another way for REX to milk simmers. I bought REX 4. Then Overdrive. Then Texture Direct. Now they want me to buy Soft Clouds? FSX has been around for what, eight years, but it's taken until now for REX to produce "volumetric" clouds? P3D has them out of the box, and the low-lying fog effects are sublime. I'm not buying Soft Clouds even if it is just $10. I use OPUS weather engine because it is far superior to anything REX has. I detest all the REX UI's too - way too overblown for what should be a simple selection dialog. They're very slick-looking but leave the average user bewildered.
  2. Ronzie, Thanks for the PM, I was hoping it would include my activation key! I no longer have the email with the bounceback from last weekend, I sent another registration request yesterday afternoon (US EDT) and have received nothing in return. Please PM a key! thanks
  3. I've sent it twice. Last weekend it was bounced back after a few hours, yesterday - nothing. I just sent another request, double-checked the email format and I use Yahoo email. I'd appreciate a PM. 1181844916 ! william ! challen

I really enjoy flying both, and switch between them often. I find the 737 easier to fly, the various AP modes generally work as I anticipate, where the 777's automation takes some getting used to, particularly the autothrottle, which seems to have a mind of its own sometimes.
  6. I use ORBX FSX Go to launch FSX and manage config. I had buffer pool size set to 350000000 and was consistently bumping up around 3, 3.1 GB with NGX, especially over ORBX EU and close to a UK2000 airport. Had the occasional OOM. Consistent OOM's with 777. I reset it to FSX default and reduced memory to 2.8-9, no OOMs. Just a hint to those who may still be frustrated and looking for an OOM fix.
  7. I noticed that it is slow on the update cycle, but it does eventually complete after a couple of minutes. Slowness probably due to the mass of T7 purchasers installing and looking for liveries.

If your sim preference includes airliners, this and the NGX is where its at. I have both. Once I had bought the NGX and was familiar with its systems, it became the only choice among the 7-8 airliners I've paid for. Out of the box, they are both solid products. The same cannot be said of that other company (you know the one - you pay to do their beta testing). At $90, this was a no-brainer. I will get a ton of enjoyment from it while learning a lot of the complex systems and interactions. That's a fantastic bargain if you ask me.
  9. Cannot find any documentation on how to open the doors. The buttons and levers around the doors have no click spots. I'm on SP2.
  10. The manual states that waypoints in a flight plan can be entered via the cockpit keyboard. This doesn't appear to work for dirt-to waypoints, you're stuck spinning the knob. I haven't found the keyboard to be usable for anything.
  11. Have the same problem with the a/c on the ground. Heading changes by increments of 10 deg, adjustment is via mousewheel only, there are no click spots that I can find. I think this may have been introduced with SP2, I didn't have this problem with SP1.
  12. Interesting. I'm reminded of the US Air 734 that rolled into a spin after a rudder hard-over. So I think you're right too, rudder should induce some roll. We need an aerodynamicist to explain things.
  13. Received a PM from someone intimately familiar with Carenado FDE. He reminded me that the flightpath is controlled by the lift vector, rudder simply controls yaw. He's right, and I've been focusing on adding roll to maintain direction on landing, using the rudder to keep the nose straight. I think my technique is improving, and I appreciate the tip. The TBM is a whole different animal than the high-wing Cessnas I'm used to.
  14. Biggest problem i have with this bird is lateral control on landing. Even with a boot-full of rudder I have trouble putting her down on the center line. I have the same problem with the Jet-Prop, and to a lesser extent, the C90. Not sure where the problem in my technique is with these birds, I'm able to land my other frequent fliers with no problem (T210, PMDG NGX).
  15. The C210 has been my favorite bird since I picked it up a couple of months ago. I even set aside the PMDG 737NGX for a while, which I'd become addicted to because of the immersive experience. I have a couple hundred RW hours in 172's (including SP) and I have no problem with the FDE of the Carenado 210 in flight or for pattern/landing. I usually have it fairly well loaded and fly final around 80kt, reducing to 75 in the flare for a perfect touchdown everytime, although not much of a flare and it's usually a three-pointer. Flap 30 will induce float if you're above those numbers. Sidebar: best challenge I have found with this aircraft (or any other for that matter) is landing at Courcheval LFLJ. It isn't modelled perfectly by any means in FSX, but try getting down and stopped on that 525m runway 5 (there's a wall at the end!). Fun!
  16. Despite the discomfort of the few sensitive souls, I think this thread is the most useful thing I've found in the AvSim forums in quite a while. My hope is that the bad actors in this hobby accept this feedback as a much-needed kick up the rear. Onto my regretted purchases: CS 727: paid full price, the -200 is woefully underpowered and struggles to reach FL250. Beautiful VC and exterior animations though. CS 757: Can never achieve proper TOGA N1, I had many, many overruns trying to get his bird off the ground before giving up on it. Traffic360: Not impressed at all. Watching two identical AI pushback, taxi and then takeoff together like they are siamese twins is painful to watch. The developer claims this is normal FSX AI behavior, and just "wait ten minutes, it will fix itself". Things I love and wouldn't be without: PMDG 737NGX: Nothing comes close. The only airliner I will fly now, everything else is so lame in comparison. Wish they'd do an Airbus. FsGenesis mesh: I too have noticed the odd plateau, but IMHO transforms FSX completely. In combination with GEX, it adds a depth of immersion close to that of ORBX. ORBX, although disappointed somewhat with England. PNW is stunning. Carenado Cessnas: delightful, and just like the real thing. RealityXP GNS500W: pricey, but totally realistic. A necessity if you're flying low-and-slow. RC4: Looks and acts dated, barks at you a lot, but the only game in town if you don't want to do VATSIM. TrackIR: An absolute must-have. OPUS Weather engine: one word: overcast. No other weather engine I have seen can faithfully re-create this most common weather pattern.
  17. I was looking for an improvement on the My Traffic 5.3 that I had used for years. The claims made by Just Flight for Traffic 360 sounded like just that, but after running it for a month I'm ready to go back to MYT or try something else. Traffic 360 is junk. On the forum, the response to the doubled-up AI is "oh that's just at startup, wait ten minutes and it will go away". I see this problem almost every time I fly and that excuse doesn't cut it. The UI is abysmal, not even a link to the forum or a way to check for patches/upgrades etc.
  18. I uninstalled My Traffic X 5.4, bored with the out of date liveries. I install Traffic360 with the Summer2012 schedule, go to my home field KDTW and it's loaded with NWA jets. I unchecked NWA and rebuilt. I do like that military is included. There's filters for GA and Business traffic, nothing for commercial. At DTW for example, there's nothing bigger than a 757 on the ground. No 747, A330 etc. And what is it about the management UI for these products (talking FSX addons in general that have a separate interface)? Absolutely brutal. Clunky and unintuitive. The average user won't be spending much time with the UI, but have the developers not studied any common Windows standards? There's no menu navigation here, and no buttons. Options to save settings are hidden in context menus that you wouldn't know are available unless you want to read the manual (I don't). Hey T360 devs, if I change an option that requires a rebuild of the scenery file, how about prompting me to do it once you detect a change? How about saving the options of for selected aircraft types automatically (another hidden right-click). REX is equally awful in this respect, and MyTrafficX was grade-school UI. It would be nice if all the addon developers could agree to a common spec and then integrate themselves within a common UI app.
  19. In general, I like the new look, but mostly agree with the first few commenters. Everything, from the fonts to the size of a message post is over-sized - like you are trying to accommodate the poorly sighted. Change the style sheet and reduce everything by a factor of 25%, all the browsers now have magnification tools for those with poor eyesight. In the forums, please limit the size/height of the signature line - it is tiresome trying to read a thread that is largely made up of one- or two-word posts that are accompanied by eight or more lines of signature. I'M NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR SYSTEM SPEC'S OR HOW MANY ADD-ONS YOU HAVE! I am interested in problems you've had and/or found a solution for. If you're asking a question related to your system, then include the specs in the post. The "Thanks for the update!" and "Great news!" type posts posts are completely redundant and add no value - enforce a minimum message length. </soapbox>
  20. Resolved! Tech support pointed me to the FlexNet service, which I had disabled. Re-started the service and now flying again. Great turnaround from PMDG support, thanks fellas! :Just Kidding:
  21. Having the same exact issue starting today. Requests activation key both for base pack an 600/700 pack.
  22. Looking forward to the tutorial. For now, can anyone tell me the purpose of that infernal beeping that occurs when I pull back the throttle and prop in unison? Is the prop supposed to be left in high and manage power with throttle? thanks
  23. +1 I also have the P46, flying turboprops is.....different. I am constantly frustrated trying to manage throttle and prop. control, especially when slowing down. I would appreciate a simple list of settings, when I quizzed Carenado they told me to visit the Jetprop site, which was no help at all.
  24. I'm on Win7/64, installed to the default folder. I have UAC turned off and have no problems with FSX/ORBX/REX/NGX running concurrently etc.etc. I have noticed it takes the sim a few seconds to paint the VC as the flight starts, but there's a 17-18 second "systems initializing" wait anyhow. Win7/64 definitely the way to go, I have 8GB of ram and the machine is usually consuming at least 4GB with the additional programs I have running while flying the NGX.
  25. Also having a problem with Sp1b LNAV. First flight after installation of patch: KGRB-GRR-LAN with an ILS28L approach selected. Everything running normally until GRR, next waypoint is Burye and LNAV loses the plot. The course line disappears from the ND, LNAV/VNAV and CMDA still engaged, the aircraft meanders in a lazy r/h turn.
