April 11, 201214 yr Does anyone know if it is possible to "fix" the upper brightness limit for the landscape in FSX? I much prefer the subdued lighting around dawn and dusk in FSX (as opposed to the harsh brightness of broad daylight), and it would be nice to be able to set a lower limit for "maximum brightness", so that I could enjoy flights at any time of the day. Is there anything in the fsx.cfg file that controls environmental lighting with respect to solar elevation? April 11, 201214 yr You could try Shade for FSX, by Mogwaisoft. Not that keen on it myself, since it unavoidably darkens the VC too by virtue of how it works, but it certainly does have a dramatic effect on the terrain lighting, and has a ton of user options. April 11, 201214 yr Hi Christopher, You might want to take a look at a product called "Shade". If you are aware of this product please forgive me. I am very happy with it. There is also considerable discussions about the product on the Avsim forums, so you could do a search. Here is a link to the store product: http://www.flightsimstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=1894 Regards Bob You could try Shade for FSX, by Mogwaisoft. Al Chock, I just finished my insert below and the screen refreshed and I saw your post. Good timing. Bob Officially retired
April 11, 201214 yr Author I am not totally convinced that Shade is the answer. That has more to do with contrast than actual brightness. I just want the ambient light across the landscape to stay at the level that it has maybe 30-45 minutes after sunrise (even when the Sun gets a lot higher in the sky). I just want the ambient light across the landscape to stay at the level that it has maybe 30-45 minutes after sunrise (even when the Sun gets a lot higher in the sky). I am not sure if that is something that can be accomplished. There is a product which will freeze the fsx time. Set it for 5:45 AM and it will stay there until you change it. I cannot think of anything else that might work. Maybe others will have some ideas. Bob Officially retired
April 11, 201214 yr I think you'd need atmospheric scatter to be better simulated in FSX than it presently is, in order to get the effect that you want. Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
April 11, 201214 yr ENB does it very well but I had to remove it due to crashes. Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
April 11, 201214 yr Yes, I have also removed ENB due to unresolved conflicts. Shade is not 100% ENB, but it is a very good product and has improved the immersion factor for me. Bob Officially retired
April 11, 201214 yr Shade, on some of the higher settings, does what you are saying pretty well. ENB does it the best IMO in a different way (darkening and adding contrast) but I too have finally stopped fighting it due to the menu crashes.
April 11, 201214 yr I am not totally convinced that Shade is the answer. That has more to do with contrast than actual brightness. Shade controls three parameters of scene visual aspect. One is the light color and level, second is shadow color and level and third is the fog. By adjusting light level below given FSX default value you may change, reduce scene brightness. You may look at some of my screenshots here http://92.60.132.84/...c,14347.15.html (search for the same nick ad_verbum) Main description is done in Polish but what is important for you all images are done at the same place, settings and day time. Darken scene look is just Shade's work. I did also changes in light color to show how Shade can change "mood" of flying area, but it is possible to reduce brightness only. Last two images show this flying area without any Shade influence.
April 11, 201214 yr Proper calibration of the monitor makes a big difference in how dark dusk/dawn/night appears. Especially if using LCD monitors. R9-9950X3D 32G | RTX5090 | 3T m.2 | Win11 | vkb-gf ultimate & pedals | virpil cm3 throttle | tm boeing yoke | pimax super uw | DCS
April 12, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the help, guys. Shade may well be the answer to my problem, so I will give it some thought. April 13, 201214 yr ENB does it the best IMO in a different way (darkening and adding contrast) but I too have finally stopped fighting it due to the menu crashes. Just to say that with my configuration ENB runs perfectly: http://flightsimavia...x-or-9-how.html :Loser: With kind regards, Bart S.
