What's the best overall add-on scenery for the Caribbean?

Featured Replies

I bought Fly Tampa's St Maarten last week, flew there once never to return. I was extremely disappointed with the ground resolution, it looked like the entire island was one blur. But the most disappointing aspect for me was the actual scenery, IMO it all has a cartoon look to it, and fails as far as I'm concerned in appearing realistic or convincing.

Something is not right there Howard. FT St Marteen is a work of art. I would not lie to you my friend :)

This is the first time anyone has ever wrote this type of dissatisfaction. FlyTampa's St. Maarten is probably the best airport ever made for FSX. This is coming from an ORBX fan and someone who has about 50 payware airports.

Mmm, I don't think we should all be so quick to jump on Rockcliffe ....... let me say, I LOVE FlyTampa St Maarten complete, and have flew many countless hours there, between TNCM and TFFJ and SABA .... I never get bored with these flights!

But, part of my enjoyment is the fact that (i) I've been to St Maarten in real life (but not TFFJ or SABA), and (ii) I've seen all the TFFJ landing vids and the layout & dimensions of the FlyTampa TFFJ is just perfect......

.....but >> the enjoyment I get from it is from these above aspects more than texturing and object quality. Now I do think the actual TNCM airport is exquisite and as good as any FlyTampa release, but if you take off and take a good look around the island of St Maarten itself, there is some definite blurriness, and some of the texturing ain't up to the latest releases (especially Orbx etc).

I put that mainly down to it being a far from 'current' addon; I think it was released in 2008, so we can't expect 2012 quality in every regard.

But it's still my overall favourite ever scenery product for FSX ............ however if I was buying into it, today, and didn't have an emotional link to the area, I'm not sure I'd be so rose tinted to be honest.

David.

Hi David, sure, it's the texture of the ground as I took the Caravan up for a spin. When you're used to flying GA in Orbx scenery it came as a bit of a surprise. HANDS UP I did make a bit of a boob boob, when I was talking about 'cartoony' scenery I was specfically thinking of St Bartholomews and not St Maarten, sorry guys. I guess it's a matter of taste, and as I said, I just feel the textures are very detailed, sure, but lacking realism.

Hmm,

Maybe it is just a temporary thing; I don't seem to experience such graphic anomalies from that package. This following is a reduced-size capture from St. Barths from the same package, the textures appare sharp, and the scenery seems quite realistic in nature to me:

Cartoonish? I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder- my wife and I have actually stayed in bungelows in the islands that look very much like that..especially like the one with the green roof :).

Oh my! I just added up all those sceneries and the price comes to a mere EUR 574.15 which works out to USD 756.55 :shok:

Hi Jacoba, how are you?

Please allow me to correct you.

No, you don't have to add up all those sceneries to have them.

We have some bundles at very, very, very special values exactly for those users wanting to get a huge number of airports at once.

You told about EUR 574.15 but, in fact, the bundle containing all those sceneries (Tropicalsim - Caribbean 13 FSX Airports Pack) is priced at just EUR 60,99 but may be ordered for only EUR 42,69 until April 30th, as we are currently offering 30% off on any airport or bundle, except KDCA.

You can confirm it here: http://secure.simmar...-fsx-pack.phtml

As you can see, there is a huge difference between EUR 574,15 and EUR 42,69 for 13 FSX airports.

Our bigger bundle, Tropicalsim 32 FSX Airports Pack, where you can add 32 airports to you FSX or/and FS9 at once, is almost 4 times cheaper than the value you mentioned, as it can be ordered for just EUR 112,00. That means a price of just EUR 3,50 for each airport. Nowhere on the web you would found a price per airport like this.

Hope I had solved your doubts about that. If you need any tips on this, please just email us at: [email protected]

My best regards,

Carlos Pereira.
