I wonder if it is possible to define in Plane Maker a pt-6 like turboprop, in such a way that, according to it's real world counterpart, when at level flight adjustments are made to Prop RPM, FF stays constant?

 

The C90 doesn't do it, and the old Kingair in xplane9 neither... Is there a good turboprop add-on with this level of realism ?

jcomm.It seems to me that in the XAviation T-34C that prop rpm and fuelflow are in fact linked together,I Tried adjusting my Prop rpm and it seems fuel flow follows what I do with the the lever.

I beileve there is yet no way to properly define a free-runninf turbine in Planemaker. Not a big deal of course...

Found another basic problem with jet engines.

 

Just re-checked with the default KC-10 and Benedicts 737...Thrust increases linear with RPM !!!

This is fundamentally wrong as a jet engine typically develops only 50% thrust at approx 80% RPM.

In the low thrust range this is even more noticable: 20% thrust at 50% RPM.

 

Another point is that the spoolup rate can be set in planemaker but only over the whole RPM range which means jet engine acceleration is uniform which isn't the case IRL either.

 

Both errors together reduce realism a lot as there's too much thrust available too quickly. Low thrust combined with slow acceleration is a problem that has to be taken into account IRL.

 

That effectively stopped my MD-80 project because it doesn't make much sense having to fly with seriously unrealistc power settings & spool up.

Making jet aircrafts having accurate engine figures on the whole flight envelope requires a plug-in for the engine (I think this is true for FSX as well, e.g. PMDG uses custom engine modeling as well, AFAIK).

 

It's true that X-Plane jet engine model could use more accuracy... You together should press on Austin about the issue. :)

No problem with FSX and no need for a plug in.

I used to e-mail with Austin back and forth about this issue a few years ago already.....but maybe sooner or later it will work.

In the meantime I will look for a prop plane instead of the MD-80 for an 'interim' project I think as x-plane is still the sim with the most realistic 'feel'.

Definitely YES! And, contrarily to MSFSx its an ongoing project, about to turn 64bit!!!

 

It certainly has the potential for a BRIGHT future...

 

Although I didn't buy it, I look forward for your project. There are many excellent add-ons for Xplane, both free and payware.

 

I think as x-plane is still the sim with the most realistic 'feel'.

Great link for the Jetstream 31-32.One of my all time favorites for MSFS was the Jetstream. I know it will be a great one for XP10.

 

The T-34C did use the PT6 engine.
