April 21, 201214 yr Whats everyones speed range crossing the RWY threshold??? I'm floating like a mofo'kn battleship down the runway... good thing this bird has good short field numbers... I am on the approach at 100 knots and crossing the threshold at 95-98 depending on my weight...still floating away.. I am at full flaps...
April 21, 201214 yr 100 is correct according to the manual. What's your power setting upon crossing the threshold? R U already at idle?
April 21, 201214 yr Floating is one problem I haven't had with this.. She practically lands herself.. Such a treat to fly.. On approach I hold the blue line to threshold cut and she practically greases herself onto the runway from there. April 21, 201214 yr Same here, she lands as easy and predictable as an 737 on autoland. ;-) Very nice...
April 21, 201214 yr Same here , 120 - 130kts on approach and blue line on threshold she lands like a dream as said before herself! Even if I am a bit too high on final I can pull trottles to flight idle and push her down steeply without gaining too much speed as the props will give you a good break at flight idle! And don´t forget to give her power again when "leveled" back again or she will sink like an elevator! Great FDE! Best regards,
April 21, 201214 yr No float issue here. Flaps full, 100 knots, engines idol, props full forward, conditioners 45%. Lands like a dream.
April 21, 201214 yr Keep to blue line till the threshold, bring to idle and it settles nicely when the ground effect diminishes. Gmac
April 21, 201214 yr Yep, my first test flight resulted in a perfect landing. My guess is that the OP, isn't backing off the power soon enough, is too fast, or is over flaring. She doesn't need mush of a flare.
April 22, 201214 yr Author Yeah I did a little practicing... turns out I was just coming in too fast.. It does settle nicer now albiet a lil bit of float still but thats my fault cuz I do not have the 100% feel for the bird yet..
April 22, 201214 yr I don't see any problem with a slight float. If the runway is long engough there's no reason to drop her just behind the threshold. The touchdown zone is 3000ft long and if you want to make a greaser you do need some extra energy for a slighty prolonged flare. You can try this as well: (the interesting part starts at 2:25) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyePva1flhw
April 22, 201214 yr NICE. That'll keep you out of range of shoulder-fired missiles for as long as possible, won't it?
