FSUIPC problem with saitek throttles quadrant

Featured Replies

hi

I have 3 saitek throttle quadrants controlled through FSUIPC. Everything works fine except that sometimes when replug them, the quadrant assignements are mixed up. Eventually by plugging/unplugging them I manage to have the correct assignements but by sheer luck. How can I have the correct assignements?

Thank you.

Unfortunately the only way to not have the problem is to not unplug your controllers (When reconnecting, Windows could switch the order the devices are seen by FSX/FSUIPC, thus changing your hardware assignments). If you do not have enough USB ports on your computer, purchase a powered hub so you can leave your controllers plugged in.

They always need to reconnected to the same ports. Always. Otherwise they are probably going to be named wrongly.

That said, my HUB, when reconnected, correctly assigns my TQs, provided they are connected to the HUB all the time. I have them marked where goes which.

Hello

What you need is to put AutoAssignLetters=Yes into your Fsuipc.ini and Fsuipc will then track your USB controllers for you.

You can then unplug them and Fsuipc will track the changes, below is what Fsuipc added to the .ini once I added AutoAssignLetters=Yes

See page 25 of the FSUIPC4 User Guide.pdf (Keeping track of multiple control devices ("Joy Letters")

From the Manual

FSUIPC4 uses joystick numbers to identify connected devices. This is because it primarily uses the simpler (and faster) low-level Windows joystick facilities rather than DirectInput (though that is now used for axes), and that interface supports up to

16 devices numbered 0 to 15.

But, there is a problem with using the numbers. If you unplug a device and plug it in via a different socket, or even just update

or change Windows versions, the numbers assigned can, and often do, change! This will render most or all of your carefully set

assignments, as recorded in the FSUIPC4.INI file, incorrect. Things will become chaotic or maybe not work at all!

So, to counter this, FSUIPC4 now provides help. It doesn‘t solve the problem completely, but it goes a very long way.

When first loaded, and each time the FSUIPC Options dialogue is used, FSUIPC4 scans the Windows registry and makes a list

of the names and "GUIDs" lodged there for each of those connected joysticks which it refers to numerically. These are listed

against their number in an INI file section called [JoyNames].

Thanks for the tip, mad dog. But where is my fsuipc.ini file? I have licenced copy but can't find the .ini on my PC. Can you help please?

Thanks

Lin

Like Word Not Allowed, I keep my Saitek gear plugged into a powered hub. When I need to replug any of it, which includes two quadrants, I unplug the hub, as opposed to the individual USB cables and have never run into this problem with FSUIPC. What will occasionally happen is FSX will revert to having the controls checked for FSX, so I often have to deselect that again.

But where is my fsuipc.ini file?

In the "Modules" folder under the main FSX install folder.

Thanks Scott, I will try that next time
