April 27, 201214 yr I just wanted to get a conscientious as to the PMDG customer base about FSX stability. Everytime I get the twitch to build a new machine for FSX and the NGX, I find posts stating how you have to constantly deal with CTD's/reformats/etc. On top of that, I'm a C3 rated controller on VATSIM and see people "drop off" due to CTD's pretty constantly. I have all the popular tweak articles bookmarked and plan to us them, even with those, is FSX still THAT glitchy? Kind Regards, Shawn Fitts
April 27, 201214 yr I think FSX still has a few known dodges. On the other hand, for my money, it's still the best choice available. YMMV. There are many of us here on AVSIM to help you with known issues. I think you will be happy you built a better mousetrap. That said, may I strongly suggest the message in my signature bar (re: backups)? Best of luck, PM if you have questions. Robert McDonald R. April 27, 201214 yr I must say that I find it quite stable at the moment. As long as you have all the fixes applied, especially the uiautomatisationcore.dll (or something). If I get a CTD it mostly is because I overused the alt button by pressing it 20 times fast after each other. Since I know that it will CTD me I a very careful with the button and try to use it as little as possible. To sum up I must say that I find a fixed version of FSX very stable. A reason that it might be very buggy for many is that they have the sliders to high compared to the rig they use and/or simply don't care about fixing the bugs. Manfred Manfred G. Ships are cooler that you think.

I'm running non-overclocked computer systems and I hardly, if ever, face CTD problems with FSX SP2 and/or any addon. Glitches and quirks yes, but no CTDs. Dave P. Woycek

Manfred I am not trying to hyjack this thread, but you mentioned the 'ALT' button that got me thinking. Does this problem apply when you add in commands like ALT+F12 for GSX, or any other 'ALT+' command. If this is the case, maybe those commands should be reassigned? Regards, Rick Hobbs

Regards, Nope, I don't have such enhancement things. I was talking about that bar that comes from above if you press alt. The one where you access things like "save flight" or "change weather" while in game. If I use those too fast I can get a CTD. But if I respect that bar I have always been fine. Manfred Manfred G. Manfred If accessing menus causes your fsx to crash you may be experiencing problems with UIAutomationCore.dll Fsx needs the vista 32-bit version of that file to fix menu instabilities. I believe there's a kb article on pmdg's support site with a link to it & instructions on where to place the file. RE: General fsx stability; Fsx has & always will have some problems/bugs. The problem with advanced addons like pmdg aircraft (nature of the beast, nothing they're doing wrong) is that they push fsx beyond what it was originally designed to do & makes those bugs/instabilities more apparent. You may not notice the tires are worn on your car until you get on a wet road & they can't provide the traction required to avoid a ditch/tree, then their inability to perform in extreme conditions is way more apparent than say idling through a parking lot (default trike in the Nevada desert) EDIT: That being said, most problems have been identified and well documented here or on other boards, along with the fixes. A lot of them can be avoided by taking extra time during installation & initial setup to keep things optimized.
