I might ask JohnFromCo that we repeat the test in 2560, if he agrees to do it :)

Makes these tests more public. I am intrigued by this new hardware frenzy. :Nerd:

You are preaching to the choir man

:LMAO:

SLI for improvimg FSX perf. will give you 0 impovement.

SLI will help you for High resolution, don't fart around with the 1.5GB card, get the 3GB card.....

Some quick and dirty tests comparing different AA levels with a 980x at 4.4 comparing one gtx480 vs sli, bp=0 with frames locked at 30 internally, 1920x1080

Terrain: ORBX PNW, Clouds REX at 2046

Aerosoft Beaver at Darrington with heavy clouds/rain, 8xs, 2sgss

single card: 30fps, smooth

SLI: 30fps, smooth

Aerosoft Beaver at Darrington with heavy clouds/rain, 16xs, 4sgss

single card: 15fps, stuttery

SLI: 17fps, slight stuttery

PMDG 737, KSEA moderate clouds 8xs, 2sgss

single: 18fps, slight stutter

SLI: 20fps, slightly less stutter (seemed fairly smooth but its subjective)

My brief tests tonight comfirm my previous tests. SLI offers very little benefit with higher AA settings. I would like to note that I too observed Dazz's observation that outside views yielding significant improvement and only cockpit views show reduced fps. It will be interesting to see what, if any, benefit SLI brings to super high resolutions. I've not had a higher res monitor personally but have seem numerous posts where people say you don't need as high AA with the mega high resolutions. I've tested Alain's DX10 AA settings and get favorable results but the addons without support and the flashing runways it gets old and I always default back to DX9.

The question is though, if it's gonna bring anything John. I'm currently doing some tests with Howard (DescendDescend), so hopefully we have something to report soon.

I've tested Alain's DX10 AA settings and get favorable results but the addons without support and the flashing runways it gets old and I always default back to DX9.

I don't remember last time I got an addons that was not DX10 compatible, I don't have the flickering runways with Orbx addons.

DX9 is the way to go if you want everything pefectly compatible between your addons and FSX BUT if you want good perf and less (almost none) stutterings DX10 is the way to go with compatible addons.

IMHO water and sky look better in DX10.

I also like the cockpit shadows in DX10 for immersion.

Alain, if I'm not mistaken, you are the only guy I know at AVSIM actively promoting DX10. Just sayin...

HAHA yes he does. But hey if he's happy who are we to say otherwise. Most addon's work ok with DX10 but my home base with Aerosofts Anchorage X has only day textures with DX10. When I was testing DX10 with SLI I don't recall much of a difference in fps there either. I do see a jump in fps with higher settings tho.

But hey if he's happy who are we to say otherwise.

Indeed.

LOL, I'm not promoting DX10, I'm just sharing my results with all of you, long time ago we (I) had a lot of problems with DX10, shimmerings was a biggy just to take this one but with PC's hardware and GPU drivers getting better every years DX10 is more attractive to me and since I like eye candy I can max out FSX without loosing to many FPS.

I am happy......

And how did you solve the usage of the SGSS under DX10? Does it work?

DX10 is more attractive to me and since

How did you get rid of the runway texture flashing etc?

ArDee

How did you get rid of the runway texture flashing etc?

There is a fix somewhere in the Avsim's forum (old thread), I can't find it right now, you have to fix each flickering airport, if 3PD use this fix you won't see any new addons airports with flickering runways, I don't know if Orbx is using this fix but I don't have any flickering runways at their airports.

And how did you solve the usage of the SGSS under DX10? Does it work?

I don't think I solved anything, I just play with the settings, last time I tested FSX I probably pushed my card to far cause I got artifacts, in this vid. I have no shimmerings what so ever using DX10 and the vid. is sharp, you can see stutterings but I'm pushing the plane and graphics to the max.

Look at the end if you see trees shimmerings or else, the wings on the plane and the gauges are sharps, is it sharp to you, about the graphics quality?

is it sharp to you

Coming from an 8x + 2xSGSS user, I have to say that your AA looks much lower quality than mine.

I ran the video in fullscreen 1080P and the shimmering seems to be really bad on the autogen and the re-inforcement cables on the wing.
