Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant?

Featured Replies

The TPM works great for T, P and, er M, really good in fact, nice long travel giving plenty of scope for fine adjustment, but forget the switches - as someone said they're two position on/off.

I haven't tried the standard throttle quadrant through the Yoke, I wonder if those switches works any better?

Strange question maybe, but I am righthanded and so I use my right hand to fly the plane with my joystick. Now if I would buy that quadrant, I would have to use my left hand more for flying... Right now I use my left hand for the throttle and so on. I guess most people are righthanded, but pilots, so it seems, have to do more 'steering' with the lefthand then right, specially during take off and landing and so on. Seems a bit off having to fly more with my left hand. Besided, the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro really is a right hand joystick, with a spot for the thumb on the left...

How you you guys and girls deal with this?

That TPM won't be it with those switches. But now I've got P and M working with my joystick I am in doubt about that quadrant. It's a pity you can only spend your money once...

I've got an AV8R-01 that works well - its got four two way toggle switches that I use for flaps, trim and mixture up/down, the last is gear/lights, and since it also has twin throttles I use the second for prop pitch.

Don't think you can buy the -01 any more though!

Now if I would buy that quadrant, I would have to use my left hand more for flying.

Hello

Why would you need to use your left hand more ?

Because I would have to keep my right hand on the quadrant? For instance when I am landing I am 'playing' a lot with the throttle. Er.... come to think of it... I could of course place the quadrant at my left LOL... But that wouldn't feel right...

Hello

Jeroen, It will feel more right than using the P and M keys

Planes with side-by-side seating up front tend to have the engine controls in the middle, so you're left-hand-only on the yoke or stick when adjusting them. Often, a duplicate throttle will be on the left side of the pilot's seat, so you can keep your right hand on the controls in critical phases (like on Final). Look to the left side of the RV-6A in Flight... I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a throttle knob over there as well, cabled to the main throttle.

Not that that will help you with a sim controller, though!

I wish we could use these suckers in Flight.

Isn't the refresh rate on these things pretty crappy, resulting in laggy update speed? Or have they fixed that problem?

Don't know the answer today but, I have them on the way for a comprehensive Avsim.com review. The response time or FPS hit will be one of the questions answered. I plan to connect 3 and run some tests, then connect another 3 and see if that makes much difference. I have been told already that each instrument requires a powered USB. I just got one of those powered/numbered 10 USB strips so I can start as soon as FedEx gets them to my door.

My desk/cockpit is fluid as I changed in again last night to get ready for the six instrument units. I now have the Dual quadrant and Cessna Trim Wheel stacked on top of the TPM unit. I added the x52Pro Flight Stick and HOTAS throttle to do the Milviz F-15E review. The Combat Rudder Pedals were also a nice upgrade.

Ray, I know you will have those tests soon enogh, looking forward for the review, thanks.

Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

That is how I fly. Quadrant on the right and stick on the left. I'm a righty, but I want to mimic how it feels in RL so I keep the muscle memory sharp.

I am not sure. I have heard they have "lagged" response, ie they don't change as soon as you move your joystick. But that is the case with in game instruments as well, as they don't show what your joystick is doing, buyt what the plane is doing, like in real life. So I wonder if those complaining about lag in this regard are taking this into account. Or if the Saitek Instruments do indeed lag after the ingame instruments, and if so, to what degree...

Wow... Me jealous. I see you have that quadrant at the left!

What stick do you have? Most stick (and at least the one I have) are clearly more for right hand use.

This one is the Saitek x52PRO and it designed for right hand use but can be used with either hand. The actual grip is moulded for the base of the thumb and the bottom rest is on the right side..
