Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant?

Featured Replies

I recently bought Saitek Combat Rudder pedals, specially for Flight. I still use the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro for everything else. That joystick only has one handle for throttle, so I always use the keyboard or the VC to set the prop and mixture. Now I don't really like that so I was thinking about getting the Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant. (I like to get things from the same company  ). I briefly thought about getting the Siatek Pro Flight Yoke system (a yoke plus that same quadrant) but that's a bit too expensive and I don't know if I like that yoke... or yokes in general. Specially since not every plane has a yoke (like the R-4). I noticed the quadrant isn't too costly, so I wonder if anyone here has it and if works with Flight. Would you recommend it? Or should I spend my money on something else?

EDIT

I suddenly wondered if a quadrant like this will work with any upcoming multi-engine airplane...

EDIT

Hm... for the Maule and RV the Saitek TPM might be appropriate...

...but it cost twice as much and I am sure there will be airplanes where the Quadrant is more appropriate. You can't buy hardware for every available plane. Well, you can, but I can't...

Flight currently has only a single mappable axis for the throttle (as well as for prop and mixture). My Logitech G940 has split-lever dual throttles, so I'm hoping they'll at least add the appropriate individual-engine axis controls for multi-engine aircraft.

Still not sure what I would do for prop and mixture, though. I use the two wheels on the G940 throttle for them currently. I guess I could use the two wheels for left and right prop. Mixture could even be done just in the VC, I guess. I'll want a button on the throttle for "full" mixture, though.

Hm, now you are talking about buttons... Stupid me. I've got some buttons on that Logitech I hardly use. I just set four of them to prop + and - and mixture + and - . Just as with the keyboard commands one click de- or increases 5% of prop or mixture. That's already easier then having to use the keyboard or the VC...

lol

Some solutions are too simple to be obvious. :Smug:

Personally I just bought the Saitek throttle quadrant and I'm very happy with it so far. My main reason for buying was so I could have the throttle on the right, as previously I was using the throttle from my X52, which is designed to go on the left, with my yoke, so this is a nice change.

I also looked into the TPM module, but after reading some reviews on how the switches work, I passed on it. Basically, the switches only send a command when they move to the on position, so if say you mapped a switch to landing gear, you would flick the switch from off to on to raise the gear, but then to lower you have to switch it back to off and then on again. So anytime you switch something on then off, it has to go from off to on to off and back to on, which turns it off. Seems kind of confusing and the switches on the quadrant work way better for that kind of thing.

I have always used the Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant with Flight, it works really well for me with the Maule and RV.

The Microsoft team has them for testing already. Avsim review coming soon and will update the status at that time.

J van E,

You are going to have to venture out more often. Here is a recent Avsim.com review of the product used in MS Flight. duh. It just has a Cessna logo on it, otherwise . . . Saitek thru and thru.

Wow, great review, as always! Thanks for the links!

Cool, what's the best way to keep abreast of such developments if one isn't on the Beta team?

Wow, I didn't know Saitek has so much cool hardware devices...! Man, would I like to have them all...!!! Does that Switch Box work with Flight? The only thing that don't interest me that much are those Instrument Panels, which I already see in the VC. I am more interested in the input devices. Cool stuff...!

I wish we could use these suckers in Flight.

The refresh rates are awful. They are not what they advertise.

Does that Switch Box work with Flight?

No, unfortunately it doesn't. I have it and while it works brilliantly in FSX, it doesn't work at all in flight, and as far as I can tell there is no way around it (i.e there is no software to use to map the switches to keystrokes). I also have the Cessna trim wheel and it doesn't work in Flight either, as there is no way to set a trim axis command, but I would love if they could make that work with Flight too. Those plus TrackIR support and I'm not sure I'll even need to open FSX anymore lol.
