Tip for using Orbx migrator tool correctly

Featured Replies

After giving the Orbx migrator a try this morning it worked well but ran into some issues which I can only blame on myself.. Others might run into some problems themselves if they did the following.

1. Installed Orbx addon airports directly into Prepar3D via registry fix tool.

The migrator will link any addon airports you have installed into FSX.The migrator will have links in your Prepar3D FTX Central referencing the FSX versions. The migrator will enabled ObjectFlow etc for the airports. So if you also have addon airports installed into Prepar3D you can see how there is going to be a "conflict of interest" between the two. Best bet since there is a sure fire method now to "do it the right way" is uninstall Prepar3D. Make sure your /scenery/ folder is deleted and anything to do with Orbx is completely deleted. Make sure FSX is set correctly in the registry (via registry repair tool) Reinstall Prepar3D, install Migrator tool.. This way it will function as intended and any conflicts you can be assured if you go to Orbx for support your install is exactly how they intended it to be and not some pieced together concoction which will just make getting support a PITA for you, and them.

Do it correctly and you won't have to reinstall aircraft, and only update your DLL.xml or exe.xml accordingly. This only took me 30 minutes..

thanks for the tip but for me this is not working at all :-/

any way of migrating the Orbx FTX completely out of FSX to P3D or in exchange Copy the Files (Duplicate)?

I want to phase out slowly from FSX, hence I can not have any dependencies on existing FSX files for it to properly show up in P3D.

From what's I've read on their forums the next transition tool they release will be a complete, and true migrator that will copy everything over so you can do away with relying on FSX as a crutch.

I have run the migrating tool and on my testing so far it has worked well. In fact I am now in the process and have already successfully linked in my custom Orbx stuff enhancments to my Orbx airports and other freeware airport and scenery enhancements that I designed to work with Orbx scenery. Further I have linked in Don Grovestine`s freeware airport enhancements (I will look at the AI part today).

What you could do after using the migration tool is to copy and paste all the actually Orbx airports - scenery over into their duplicate locations in P3D, then go to the scenery library in P3D and edit or remove and add the new entries for the Orbx stuff identical to what is showing in the P3D scenery library. This will then add all the actual hard files right into your P3D.

You then need to migrate to your dll.xml file in P3D and edit the location of the Objectflow to your new locations in P3D. (hopefully that makes some sense to you).

yeah, I guess I can take that path.

I had to reinstall FSX and then all the Orbx airports, the migrator worked great.

It doesn't pull over weather themes though, you have to do that manually.

Am I going nuts or did this migrator make Prepar3D run like crap? Ever since installing it I can't help but notice auto gen popping in much closer, also watching the mesh detail pop in close to the plane. I actually saw blurries a few times too which peeves me off. Yet my frames are the same.

edit: I'll side with I'm going nuts from lack of sleep. :Nerd:

styckx,

Mine takes forever and forever to load just the main default flight - going to fly tonight and see how she does? Go figure. cthiggin

Pretty sure it's just the normal pop in of the LOD system... Every once in a while I get fixated on something that's probably always been that way but since I fixate on it randomly I convince myself it's acting differently then it once did.

No matter the LOD you set the vegetation regions seem to snap into a finer level of detail close to the plane and you can watch it like carpet being laid out. Not that it was blurry, almost like another layer is added in. Mesh LOD too, think it's a combo of both of what I'm fixated on.. You can turn off auto gen and still watch it do it. I need to stop staring at the ground so much. :Just Kidding:

I used the Migrator on a dual-boot system where FSX is 32bit OS and P3D is 64bit OS. Had to use the FSX registry tool running in the 64bitOS. This places a registry link for FSX from the 64bitOS. where on P3D exists. to FSX in the 32bitOS. Do not know anything about the need to change XML or DLL stuff. That sounds like a dangerous game.

OS = operating system. In this case Windows.

You P3d is loading slowly because you have so many scenery entries now, if you disable the Orbx stuff, it should load up much more quickly.

I use the FTX tool and SCM2004 to disable any sceneries where I am not going to fly and it keeps the load times reasonable.

PingPong,

I remember that "now" from several years ago. Thanks for "refreshing" an old memory.

Have a blessed day. cthiggin
