May 11, 200422 yr What does atc mean when they say this, it goes something like, ORD is now romeo, or for ATIS, u have romeo, or the pilot, like, this is SAS944 with delta or whatever, what do they mean by this?adam
May 11, 200422 yr Briefly- the ATIS (automated terminal information service) regularly updates weather conditions, runway(s) in use, etc. Each update is given a different "identifier", using the radio "alphabet" so a is alpha, r is romeo, l is lima, etc. Each update has a different identifier. So the pilot identifies which update he/she has by saying "we have romeo" if that is the update they listened to on the ATIS radio frequency; or the controller tells the pilot which is current if necessary "ATIS is now romeo", if the pilot checks in with an out-of-date ATIS report. Hope this helps.Conig
May 11, 200422 yr Hey Adam. Since the ATIS is updated every hour, you need a way to know if you have the current info or old info. Each ATIS update gets assigned a letter. If the current info was Romeo, the previous hour's was Quabec, and next up will be Sierra. If you have information Quabec and they tell you information Romeo is current, then you need to go back and get the new ATIS. :-) Matt KaprockiFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
May 11, 200422 yr AdamIgnore those other posts. For the life of me I just don't know where these people get their information."You have Romeo" is only used by female ATC personnel who are mad at their boyfriend and make this remark on air. BTW, it's actually meant to be passed along to the stewardesses by the co-pilot. Not normally used when talking to light aircraft.Regardsand "You have Romeo"

May 11, 200422 yr You should probably go ahead, then, and explain the use of the term, "Tower, I have Juliette!"Cheers,Conig
May 12, 200422 yr Hey All,You're all wrong! Most of the controllers and pilots I know usually have "whiskey"!Take care,Marc
May 12, 200422 yr Author This reply is correct - see FAR 91.299. This business of 'weather' and 'ATIS' (what in the world is ATIS??) is baloney.I know, I just spoke to Sam Spade, Chief Pilot NY Flight Standardz Office, NY region ("FIZZDOH") about this issue today.
