June 15, 201213 yr Hey David, the language barrier was easy to go through. I speak a little French and understand most of what´s said, so the briefing was done in French. However, I asked to have the flights conducted in English for two reasons: I´d feel more comfortable and it would be more realistic from a CRM perspective. Since all instructors there are type-rated and actual airliner pilots, all of them speak English well enough for our purposes. Victor, Thanks for that. Perfect. Another good reason to visit to Paris then! Best wishes, David David Abrahams
June 15, 201213 yr Author Thank you for the replies guys. I really hope all fo you get a chance to experience these fixed base trainers or a level D. If any hardcore simmer deserves a chance to grab the controls of the NG it´s our one and only PMDG gang Cheers,Victor M. Lima
June 16, 201213 yr I have since found out that this experience I've booked for tomorrow night, is run by a flight training organisation at our local GA airport and is based on a twin prop. Therefore no point reporting it in this forum. However, I have clocked up many VATSIM hours in the PMDG Beech 1900D, and it is a full motion sim, and I'm bringing a friend who is also a flightsim enthusiast, so I'm sure it'll be a memorable evening all the same :good: ! And actually, in 1999 I already had the unforgettable experience of, with another aviation enthusiast, being allowed to spend two and a half hours flying a real full-motion B777 simulator at the training centre of a major airline, so one could say I've had my share . Cheers, Emile Bax.
June 17, 201213 yr I did an hour with Flight Experience in Melbourne a couple of years ago but I was a little disappointed with the quality of the projected graphics. Having said that I did have a very cute FO (female). Would love to do a real Level-D sim but I guess that would be prohibitively expensive.
June 17, 201213 yr I did an hour at the Flight Experience in Melbourne Way back in 2008! I was a lot younger then and new a lot less, Plus I didn't have any NG experience like I do now with the NGX, So I wouldn't mind giving it another go. Even so, I had an enjoyable hour flying around Hong Kong, with a visit to both the old and new airports, And a visit to St Matreen at the end.
June 17, 201213 yr I did a 1 hour session at Flight Experience in Queenstown, NZ a couple years back and throughly enjoyed it. Landing at Queenstown is nerve-racking. I've also got a number of hours in the real Level D NG. In 2005 I got a special price of $150/hr. so I jumped on that. The downside was it was booked at 10pm and went to 2am in the morning. I just checked to see what the going price/hr. is now and they quoted me $800/hr. with a minimum of 2 hrs.....I'll have to think about that....Whoa... :Waiting: Regards, jen noulet
June 17, 201213 yr Nice report!! I'll do such a simulator flight in Lufthansas A320 full flight simulator, here in Frankfurt propably this summer. It has hydraulic movement and is as close to the "real thing" as you can get, not entering and liftig the aircraft of ground. With kind regards, Bogdan Misko.
June 17, 201213 yr So the simulation is driven with FS9 with PMDG's original 737NG underlying it? I saw something very similar to this at FRA. If that's what it is, I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Looks like a good time all the same though.
June 17, 201213 yr Author So the simulation is driven with FS9 with PMDG's original 737NG underlying it? At first I was disappointed by the fact that it was FS9 as well. I wasn´t disappointed due to the graphics because they were superb due to the add-on scenery and traffic. However, we all know the only way to get an extremely accurate NG flight model short of flying in a level D is to use the NGX. But I have been trying so long to find a place like this I wasn´t going to back down, and you´re right, it was an amazing experience nonetheless! Fromt the lobby to the briefing room you feel like you´re in an airline´s HQ at an airport, the only thing missing was the smell of jetfuel. The people working there are great as well. Plus, it´s full of Boeing oficially licensed products to buy. I bought a beautiful model of the 747-800. Does anyone know of places I could get an actual 737 or 777 level-D experience? And actually, in 1999 I already had the unforgettable experience of, with another aviation enthusiast, being allowed to spend two and a half hours flying a real full-motion B777 simulator at the training centre of a major airline, so one could say I've had my share . My friend, you really have nothing to complain about haha! one hour in a 777 level D would be my ultimate simming accomplishment. Hope you have a great time flying the turboprop. Flying is flying after all! Cheers,Victor M. Lima
