Performance issues with FSX

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

First, please forgive my ignorance if this is posted in the wrong section, wasn't sure where else to post it. I am aware that hardware related issues are not allowed in this forum, but I don't think this is neccessarily an issue with my hardware. Once again, if its in the wrong section, please just move it to the right section, as I don't know where to post it, thanks :)

I have the PMDG 747 for FSX, and this is where my problems start. On the ground at Kai Tak, with moderate traffic loaded, it drops down to 11-15fps. This is despite using the cfg tweaker link posted in the Avsim FSX forums. Don't get me wrong, it increased my FPS by 20-30, but my frames are just killed when I am flying the PMDG 747 at a major airport and traffic loaded. Of course, using a default plane doesn't kill the frames so much but I still think the performance should be well above what it is now, since I use a i5-2500 quad and a GTX570.

thanks for reading

See the guide link in my sig? Try that and take yourself enough time.

Srdan,

If you load up the PMDG 747 at KJFK, set all of your terrain sliders hard right, autogen hard right, airport & ground traffic at 50%, cloud density at max and range our to 110m, LOD 6.5 or so, in moderate cloudy weather, what sort of frame rate would you likely see taxiing and after TO?

As I am not using AI, I am not a measure, sorry. But without, with 747, which is easier on FPS than NGX, I am easily seeing 25fps at FSDT KJFK. In VC. Out of my head now, as far as I remember...

That's set up as suggested vis a vis sliders? That's pretty impressive. I don't have KJFK from FSDT, but at the default KJFK I'm guessing 13 would be about it, if that, as I say w/ autogen extreme and everything else as described. So, just avoid that combination ;o)

13fps with Q9650, seems a bit low, but I guess realistic. SB is about 2x as fast as previous generation. Has been confirmed many times, even I had a boost as much as double when I went 920 -> 2600K.

And yes, sliders high, as I like them and have them according to my guide. I'll go brush my teeth now and let FSX load a situation... :)

And done. What I do for you guys...

FPS are in the pic, 2560res, my settings.

At Schipol airport, with the PMDG 747, and with ultimate traffic set to 100% it drags right back to 13-15 fps..What kind of FPS increase would your guide give? I already tried that ventubo tool and it did increase my FPS a lot, however I don't think it should be this low, not with a Sandy Bridge 3.3-3.9ghz quad cpu, and a GTX570. \

Thank you for replying :)

Well, don't really know what my Q9650 would do under those conditions so it's just a guesstimation. But the 2x as fast doesn't seem to match in any way what artificial benchmarks are showing (for example single core perf at 3.0Ghz comparison at Tom's of wolfdale v. SB which comes in at a paltry 115% increase in an image rendering benchmark). Even so, I think 13fps in the conditions I described sounds like 1/2 of what you are seeing, so there indeed a doubling happening there.

Hey Word Not Allowed, as suggested I started with a new cfg by moving the current one and allowing FSX to regenerate one, however I can't find the BUFFERPOOLS section in the new one. Do I add it, and if so, where?

Noel, here's something for you to shoot against. You have a similar rig to mine, although yours is a quad core and mine is a dual core, but about the same clock and your on a 64bit system with 4GB of RAM and I am still on XP 32 with 2GB of RAM. Anyway, approaching FSDT's JFK with 100% WOAI (not using my UT2 at the moment) and the PMDG 737, I get a pretty steady 25 to 30 FPS from the VC. Settings are pretty much towards maxed except that I have the car traffic turned off. In one shot I have the Ultimate Terrain night lights turned on, still with 100% AI and still get over 25 FPS steady and smooth as silk. This is running at 1920X1080 which is my monitors native resolution, a larger screen that runs a higher resolution might take a toll on FPS but since its currently the largest one I have I cant say for sure. I will say this though, the FSDT version of KJFK performs a lot better than the stock version of JFK while at the same time offering a lot more detail and of course looks a lot nicer as well.

One of these days I have got to pick up FT Kai Tak just for the hell of it since its such a nice looking scenery. I'm interested to see what type of performance I can get out of my old rig there with a PMDG bird.

Would you be so kind sir as to share your secrets? :( My FPS drops right down to under the 10 range with full UT density and Mega airport for Schipol and Charles De Gaulle...

Do I add it, and if so, where?

Yes, you add the section.

What do you mean "where"?

Hmmm been playing with my setup and cant get it right now.

Enabled dx10 preview, bilinear filtering and antialiasing, graphics look stunning but i have lots frames due to antialiasing.

Dx10 also takes a little while to load and gives some strange blue "Flight Simulator x" panels everywhere for about a second or so when changing views.

Thanks Word Not Allowed. By where I meant is there a specific place or order in the cfg it has to go?
