July 10, 201213 yr I am definitely going to have to give this Gmap thing a try - maybe this weekend - if it rains... Me too. Everyone sounds very excited for this add-on. I'll definitely give it a try.
July 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member I don't think anyone using Gmap needs the reminder that they're flying a plane! Or what direction they are going. :P Having said that purpose of the plane symbol is to point in the right direction and thanks to all the feedback on this 2.1 beta we should eventually have a fix for the no-HUD scenario. July 10, 201213 yr After turning the HUD on you have to click on -DISC in GMap and then on -CONN (or whatever to turn it on). Ah - that was the missing bit. All working now which goes to prove yet again that it always pays to read the instructions (carefully). GMap is now a keeper. Thanks JvE

Hi TweakFS, Thanks to the topics here i also started using GMap in combination with a flightplan created in PlanG. Works great, so thanks to you and to J van E among others here I'm thinking of buying the Navaid-data addon to have airport info available in the (G)Map, but i'm not sure it displays ILS frequency's too. It's not specifically mentioned on your site (while VOR, NDB, intersections etc. are mentioned) but i can see a ILS dropdown in the screenshot in the download section. However, the dropdown isn't 'open' so i can't check the information displayed there. Can you confirm you can check the ILS frequency while flying in GMap? Thanks in advance. I'm talking about the info and screenshot posted here: http://fswidgets.com...?products_id=59 Mark
July 10, 201213 yr Ditto on the thanks to TweakFS. It's nice to have the personal collaboration by a developer. Kudos to Plan-G for a sophisticated flight planner that is super simple to use for just VFR vectors. I was struggling to get the right mix of fuel load and freight in the Maule for anything longer than 100 miles, and the Flight map doesn't provide the info to calculate interim fuel stops. I'm a casual flyer - no intention of learning sectionals, ILS, etc. I just needed something allowed me to calculate a route that ensured none of my stops were named, "fell out of the sky here." Installing and running Gmap is ridiculously easy. Doing simple flight plans in Plan-G literally takes just a couple of minutes. Now I can pick a job, spend a few minutes creating a flight plan, then follow it real time when flying. I have two large monitors. Primary monitor is an HD wide screen, and windowed mode fits almost perfectly. Second monitor is also HD wide screen, turned so that it is tall, not wide. When flying I change the second monitor to the lowest resolution that retains the aspect ration (proportions) of Gmap. That makes Gmap big enough so that I can zoom out to see far ahead, and still see plenty of detail. I grab a screen clipping of the Plan-G waypoints. That's the small table in Plan-G that show the start, interim, and end points of the route, along with headings and distances. I display the screen clipping below Gmap. This stuff really works well together.
July 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Mork & Pville211, glad to hear you are enjoying using GMap as much as we enjoyed making it. Mork to answer your question in a more positive way (i.e. an actual demonstration) disconnect the map in GMap, zoom out a little and drag the map to the KSFO area, then zoom back in and check out the live demo of the Nav Data (select the items from the pop-out menu in the top right corner of the map). You can indeed open and view that info in flight although under some circumstances it may be necessary to disconnect the map momentarily to view the Google Maps info window if the arrival airport is outside the viewable area of the map. Sorry the demo doesn't cover any of the areas MS Flight has scenery for, it was designed that way well before MS Flight came out. Fermin Fernandez FSWidgets Developer Melbourne, Australia (UTC+10)
July 10, 201213 yr well, weirdly, I installed the new version and the heading works without any shenanigans with the HUD. Go figure... JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte

I'm not at home right now, so i can't check it out now. I'll do that tonight, but for now i read your reply as "yes, you can find ILS-frequency's in GMap with the NavAid data" ;-) Mark

July 10, 201213 yr Author thanks to all the feedback on this 2.1 beta we should eventually have a fix for the no-HUD scenario. Excellent news Fermin, I will look forward to that as I much prefer to fly with the hud display off. July 10, 201213 yr Never would have found this airport ( Beaver) this morning without Gmap and Plan-G Everthing looks the same on a cloudy day, and covered with snow and ice
July 10, 201213 yr PICS That's all the info i needed. Thanks again Jeroen. BTW: i finally got my TrackIR this weekend, and i love it :-) Mark
