July 8, 201213 yr Seems as if there has been a significant breakthrough http://www.fswidgets...ewmode=threaded, just try switching the hud on, which should result in the aircraft heading icon in GMap to work correctly. Does it work for you? (sorry about the typo in the subject, can't seem to correct it but maybe J van E can) Regards John (Bird) 4.6GHz OC, Windows 10 Creator, 16GB RAM, 780 Ti SC 3GB, SSDs Thrust master HOTAS Warthog, Virtual-Fly TQ3, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, 40 inch 4K Philips screen, CV1 Touch, AFS2, P3D4
July 8, 201213 yr Interesting! I hope they can use this information to implement a proper fix because for me turning on the HUD is no option and hence no workaround. EDIT Topic title edited. And the workaround does work indeed. But for me it's too much hassle doing all that everytime, so I will simply wait until FSWidgets has implemented a real solution in GMap.
July 8, 201213 yr Interesting work-around. For me, it only works when the HUD is turned on. As soon as I turn the HUD back off, the GMap heading goes right back to its stuck position, so not really a work-around for me either since I don't like the idea of having to fly with the HUD on all the time. Still, now the devs have a solid clue about the problem, so a real fix may be on the horizon.
July 8, 201213 yr Ah, then perhaps the memory location they are referencing for "aircraft heading" is actually just part of the HUD display. No HUD, no GMap heading. Does anyone who flies without the HUD have a correct heading in GMap, and does anyone who flies with the HUD have it not work? If this is the problem, hopefully they can find the memory location of the actual aircraft heading, as I would rather fly without GMap than turn the HUD back on.
July 8, 201213 yr If this is the problem, hopefully they can find the memory location of the actual aircraft heading, as I would rather fly without GMap than turn the HUD back on. I would rather fly without the HUD but with GMap and a wrong heading. The wrong heading in GMap isn't a problem at all for me because I already know where I am going. The airplane icon in GMap might as well have been a moving dot, as far as I'm concerned. Still, it would be nice if they can fix this.
July 8, 201213 yr I'm not sure why you'd rely on the aircraft heading in the Fight data. Why not set the heading from your last position on the map to your current position? No need for any other data from Flight. When GMap first starts, it would still default to magnetic north but that's what it's doing already. Of course if you do this then the aircraft icon won't show the correction for crosswind. What does a real GPS do? Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
July 8, 201213 yr What does a real GPS do? Not sure about aviation units, but most GPS systems I've worked with have options for choosing to display magnetic bearing from compass, true bearing based on input from compass and offset charts from GPS location index, or course bearing based on moving averages from the location input.
July 8, 201213 yr I always have the HUD on since I don't really care about "immersion". It's just a video game to me. :LMAO: I also have the top-left corner of the screen filled with graphics card data so the screen is pretty busy. Even with the HUD on, GMap usually starts with the heading wrong. I just disconnect and reconnect and everything is OK. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
July 9, 201213 yr It doesn't matter what I turn on or off the heading bug is still present for me in GMap. The plane icon in GMap will occassionally flip to the correct heading but only for a few seconds before flipping back to face north. It's annoying but not something that ruins a flight. Blackrat
July 9, 201213 yr Make sure you have latest gmap version , actual version is from july 4th . Start and connect gmap when game is loaded and plane is on apron , runway or in flight . Then you won't see the heading bug again . sent from galaxy ace 2 via tapatalk
July 9, 201213 yr Well, I tried the HUD ON work around but it did not work around for me. The aircraft in the map still stays fixed at 2 oclock and slides sideways or backwards as I travel across the map. No matter, just have to wait for a permanent fix I guess.

After turning the HUD on you have to click on -DISC in GMap and then on -CONN (or whatever to turn it on). Did you do that? Only turning on the HUD doesn't do it.
July 9, 201213 yr might as well have been a moving dot I've always thought that a moving dot would be just fine. Probably better. I don't think anyone using Gmap needs the reminder that they're flying a plane!
July 10, 201213 yr I've always thought that a moving dot would be just fine. Probably better. I don't think anyone using Gmap needs the reminder that they're flying a plane! I just start Gmap after I start Flight, and never a problem.
July 10, 201213 yr I just start Gmap after I start Flight, and never a problem. I am definitely going to have to give this Gmap thing a try - maybe this weekend - if it rains... Don B
