July 15, 201213 yr Did you by any chance simply replaced the model files and kept the old AIA cfg file? No I didn't. Perhaps this is only a problem of using the FAIB model as flyable model, as I did only for taking screenshots. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
July 16, 201213 yr From what I understand, the modeler for these new classics is going to tackle the NG series next. As much as I appreciate that effort, I'm dreading the day I have to replace all those Aardvark NG's. Not a bad problem to have, just sayin! I hope UTT will hurry up and release the 747-8 series AI, as I have a few flightplans I have downloaded with the -8 in them (all cargo carriers) and I'm itching to see those surprises in my sim! A.J. July 16, 201213 yr I hope UTT will hurry up and release the 747-8 series AI Fully agree, not only for the cargo version - Lufthansa 2012 flightplans from UTT have the 747-8 passenger version and I have nothing to let fly on this specific legs. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
July 16, 201213 yr I have nothing to let fly on this specific legs True. However if for now you want a 747 that differs from the 744's, you can cheat using a 742 repaint. http://library.avsim...ftp&DLID=137756 Surely the upper deck would look more real if it was a 743 but since Lufthansa has never flown these... . Let's hope 747-8's will come soon. A few airline packs would already make use of them (Lufthansa, Cargolux, Cathay Pacific Cargo, AirBridgeCargo, Korean Air Cargo, Atlas Air - Panalpina).
July 16, 201213 yr As I am currently en route in Central Asia (now preparing for Approach 09 at UTDD) as every summer, I will not meet a Lufthansa 748 very soon, so I continue to wait for a "real" 748 model. Perhaps there is another model builder growing beyound UTT as we experienced it with B732 and SSJ-100. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
January 4, 201412 yr Hi folks, although this thread is quite old now, I have to give my 2 cents too. A few months ago I started to replace my AIA AI repaints with their FAIB counterpart. And first it totally blew me off. The visual appearance is just great ( we are talking about AI models ). So I moved on replacing. But then I noticed something: While I was jsut viewing AI traffic departing and arriving ( I just love sitting there at an airport an watch ), I noticed that the FAIB models are slowing down much to fast after touching down, resulting in an unrealistic early turn of the runway. Well, I see that it might make sense to keep the runway clear for other traffic, but it is just not realistic. On very long runways the FAIB model even turns off the runway before the end of the touchdown zone markings. Since I love realism, that just doesn't work for me. So I decided to stop replacing the AIA model with the FAIB ones. Hopefully there will be a model update to fix that ( I doubt there will be such an update ). But again, on the visual appearance side, the AIA model just can't get even close to the FAIB one. cheers Mike
January 6, 201412 yr Hi, is it possible to correct the behaviour Mike describes by editing appropriate values within the aircraft.cfg? Yesterday I observed an FAIB A320 landing and found it to leave the runway not exceptional early. Regards, Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
January 6, 201412 yr Hi Harald, I'm afraid I must disagree here. I have attached two images, one is a FAIB A319 exiting way too early after landing in KIAD, the second one is a FAIB B737-800 after landing in KIAH. The AFCAD-files aren't the problem, as I spend several weeks for each airport to create a highly realistc AFCAD file. cheers Mike FAIB_A319_Exiting.pdf FAIB_B738_After_landing.pdf
January 6, 201412 yr Hi Mike, I will have an eye on the landing behaviour of these models in the next time. Until now, I have no idea what causes this behaviour and how one could change it. But I have to confess that after converting almost all AI A32X and B737 to FAIB models, mostly due to their visuals and availability of repaints, this bug will hardly be a reason for me to convert back. Regards, Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
January 6, 201412 yr Hi Harald, yes, and that's the "problem" here. The FAIB models just look fantastic. I guess I'm the only one who stopped converting to the FAIB models due to this glitch. Perfectionism sucks ....... cheers Mike
January 6, 201412 yr I noticed that FAIB airplanes have repaints optimized for FSX in .dds format, so there might be a performance improvement. I've cut back on AI use since I have quite a bit of add-on scenery that has slowed my system down over the years and I mainly use PMDG products. I have plans to do a clean install, but when I look at all the pakacges I have accumulated over the years, I just have to wonder how long it would take me to reinstall them all over again
January 6, 201412 yr I guess I'm the only one who stopped converting to the FAIB models due to this glitch Hm, if I had known of it earlier... I liked just to "spot" at busy airports back in the times of WinXP when I used FSHotSFX, but it isn't the same fun anymore since under Win7 this nice add-on doesn't work. So I didn't realize the glitch... while I was happy about new repaints which were never available for DJC or AIA. Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
January 6, 201412 yr Maybe it's just because I'm still running FS9, The FAIB model is intended for FSX, and even though a FS9 model exists, it's still originally intended for use in FSX. Maybe in FSX the model is behaving more "normal". But for now, I still hesitate switching over to FSX ( I know, even FSX is getting old by now ) because I have put 10 years of work into my FS9. And personally I think, there is still some life in FS9 which can be squeezed out of it. :-)
January 8, 201412 yr The model itself does not affect aircraft performance, so don't worry about FSX versions or textures. If the aircraft performance doesn't suit you, it is easy to exchange with another aircraft. It may be worth swapping with the AIA performance: Make backups Copy contents of your aircraft.cfg for later stage. Copy entire contents of the other aircraft's aircraft.cfg file, except the aircraft entries, and paste it over the FAIB's details. Copy the FAIB [contact_points] section from 2 above entry and paste it over your newly amended FAIB details Copy the FAIB [lights] section from 2 above entry and paste it over your newly amended FAIB details Copy the FAIB [effects] section from 2 above entry and paste it over your newly amended FAIB details Copy the AIR file from the other aircraft to your FAIB one (you can delete the FAIB one) Amend the aircraft entries in the updated FAIB aircraft.cfg so that each sim= entry reads for the moved air file. I think that covers everything, if I haven't overlooked something it should do the trick. John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
January 8, 201412 yr Hi John, cool, thanks for this tip. I have tried something similar, even if not that "detailed". What I did was: I copied the .air file from an AIA aircraft into the folder of the matching FAIB pane. Then I changed the Sim= entry in FAIB's cfg file to match the new .air file. I did that because I assumed that the .air file would have an effect on the takeoff and landing behavior ( as a matter of fact, I also have a problem with AIA's takeoff behavior, but that's a different story ) of the airplane. But I was wrong, it didn't change anything. So I changed everything back to the "original" state. But as soon as I am back from today's work I will try your tips :Peace:. cheers Mike
