FaceTrackNoIR with flight

Featured Replies

I was so glad when the FLIGHT Dev team gave us support for TrackIR and toe brakes first thing. I sprang for the trackIR 5 and Saitek combat rudder pedals just before FLIGHT was cancelled. I'm thankful that I did as I still use both every day. Together they add so much to the total "feel" of flight that I remember.

Amen to that!

I remember campaigning very hard to get support for Track IR added, and was so excited when they did so - was on a major high for flight, then shortly after the dreaded announcement came out - talk about going from one extreme to the other...

I am so thankful thought they got those two items added prior to it getting cancelled, makes flying in Flight so much more pleasant and really adds to the immersion.

Yes, and thanks again for your effort Don. Many people were complaining about the lack there off. Of course many people were just complaining because FLIGHT was not what they wanted. Not bothering to think about the fact it was exactly what a lot of other people had been looking for.

You got me excited for a moment. I thought FaceTrackNoIR was finally ready to just install and play.

No such luck. When I ran the program, it selected my TV tuner instead of web cam, with no way to change. Google shows this bug was reported in 2011. Disabling the tuner in Device Manager allowed the web cam to be selected after a reboot. However the web cam just turns on then off with no message as to what is wrong. The web cam is on the supported list, one of the logitech ones.

I might try again some day. I guess you get what you pay for.

I remember a lot of debate regarding TrackIR. Understandably, the people that already owned it were campaigning vigorously for it. At that time I personally didn't know what all the fuss was about. When it was enabled in flight together with the toe brakes, which I was happy about I decided to find out for myself and got me a TrackIR set up. At that point I understood :)

Hi winjimon,

I'm sorry to hear that the faceAPI limitations (of the non-commercial version, which FaceTrackNoIR uses) are biting you...

We are working on 'our own' face-tracker, which will not have this limitation. Alas, that's not ready yet.

Great to hear, I will try future versions. Thank you.
