A week ago I noticed that I cannot engage the autopilot. Before departure I arm VNAV and LNAV and before takeoff roll I increase thrust to 40% N1 and hit TOGA, at that moment both VNAV and LNAV disengage for some reason (it never happened before). I am able to re-engage them again on takeoff roll or after lift off but autopilot won't engage whatever I try. I have to hand flying all the way.

I use FS2crew as well, not sure if there is any relation between this issue and FS2crew. I cannot figure out what am I doing wrong or what causing the problem.

First off make sure that your not putting any pressure on the control column when you try to engage the autopilot. It will not work if your using the yoke( or whatever you control with) while trying to engage the autopilot.

Thank you Lee for the reply. I know it and I have Realistic A/P engagement. I had not problem with that before. I stabilize the airplane well before A/P engagement and it always worked. Something happened recently and A/P is dead. I am also wondering why after pushing TOGA button VNAV and LNAV kicks off.

The arm light is off during toga at take off. Just wait for them to turn on again, when in the air. I believe it is correct according to real life, and that it has allways been that way in the ngx.

 

Look on the PFD for what the current active nav mode is (as well as the current armed mode).

I had submitted a ticket with PMDG and I was recommended to re-install NGX and I did. I worked one flight with FS2crew disableded. Next flight I enabled FS2crew (I did not use FS2crew, I just enabled it) and A/P would not engage again. Back to old problem :( When I push A/P button I see green lights on both CMD blinks, but it did not stick. I will try to verify again today if enabling FS2crew causing the problem. It worked fine, I can't figure out why it stopped working.

Trying increasing the 'null' zone on your joystick.

 

Your joystick may be sending out 'noise' that the PMDG is interpreting as a command input. Remember that the controls need to be centered before the AP will engage.

Looks like it was FSUIPC issue and many simmers confirmed that. I assigned and calibrated controls for British Airways livery via FSUIPC and that the only one did not work. I switched to other livery assigned with FSX and it works. So those ones which are free of FSUIPC work fine. It was brought to attention to FSUIPC team and they included a fix to a new release but after updating FSUIPC my A/P was still dead. Go figure.
