July 27, 201213 yr See you next week, then Jose? But seriously, I am glad you are going to give XP10 a bash; it means I don't have to! I'll be following your progress closely..Not having XP, I'm not going to get drawn into posting about it, but I am very interested, knowing what you want/need from a sim, to see how it fares for you.. As Don says, have fun. It's what it's all about, right? JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte

July 27, 201213 yr I'll be curious about what you think of it. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
July 27, 201213 yr Well I myself will finally get going in the training and the learning curve of both DCS A-10C, and DCS - Black Shark 2. I already have both modules installed into DCS World, and it is looking very inviting. After all, A-10C was one main factor in my decision to purchase the TM Warthog. I wish the forums here for DCS were a little more active. My simming time is really limited right now, and Flight was taking all of it - I have had the previously mentioned titles installed and ready to go, now I can spend some of my simming time with them. I will continue of course to participate in this great forum as long as it remains active, and of course continue to fly Flight somewhat, but have to admit with what has happened now I just can't seem to stomach launching it again just yet. Not sure if I will even buy the Carbon Cub now. Seems to have left a taste in my mouth somewhat. It remains to be seen if I will get back into FSX, it is still installed with my addons and ready to go, but I don't seem to have much of a stomach for it again just yet either. Flight was great for what it was, and certainly had loads of huge potential - I was really looking forward to seeing how it progressed over the next year or two. I thought maybe if it was not a big success, they might shelve it say a year or two down the road, I certainly did not see this coming, it getting killed so quickly after release. Don B
July 27, 201213 yr I went to FSX. I used Word Not Allowed's guide and I have to say... I am surprised by the performance...! Don't know if it was the 1/2 refresh rate trick or simply the new nVidia drivers, but I haven't seen FSX run so good before. Quite surprising, really. I could use that.

Sigh - I guess I could finally update my REX2 with Essentials and give it another go - not just yet though, maybe one day here soon. Gotta let this taste get out of my mouth I guess... kind of like letting the air out of one's tire. Don B

Gotta let this taste get out of my mouth I guess... kind of like letting the air out of one's tire. I know what you mean... I still use REX2 btw: I only use it for specific things (sky textures, water reflection, clouds and sun) and all that at the lowest possible resolution (which looks better to me). I don't need to have all the latest greatest versions of addons.

You did the right choice, since you still had FXS and investment in good add-ons. There are excellent add-ons that make FSX so good that, even after all these years after it has been "killed" by MS, it still shines. Well I myself will finally get going in the training and the learning curve of both DCS A-10C, and DCS - Black Shark 2. Also a good choice. I was almost there - just gave up because I really don't like the military side of flight, just that :-) DCS Worlds is very promising! July 27, 201213 yr As Neil Young says in one of his songs.................... " It's a piece of crap !!! " P3D is the only hope for the future now. Fred. Frederic Steiner.
July 27, 201213 yr I'm waiting to see the next version of P3D, sticking with FSX. I just can't get into the unreal world of xplane. It's a fantasy landscape for sure. If you find a default area that looks real let me know I'll give it another shot. without having to buy a ton of add-ons that is :( Rob Otto
July 27, 201213 yr MS may or may not have some Flight content yet to be released. I suspect they held their announcement until they had released all they had. I never considered Flight as a replacement for FSX. I have hundreds of planes in FSX not to mention tons of scenery improvements. All of Washington State, a major chunk of Colorado, some Arizona, Oahu, Southern California all in photo real scenery. Also lots of non photo but greatly improved scenery all over the world. FSX will be with me for a long time. I am considering buying that sim with the hi-res Switzerland scenery... can't think of the name at the moment. That looks like fun. I will not buy X-Plane 10. I had XP5 and currently have XP9 installed. I know a lot of people love XP and I do not wish to disrespect them but it just doesn't do it for me. XP's interface and graphics just don't make for that leap of faith... the suspension of disbelief... that I need to get into a flight sim. Twice was enough. But if you are an XP lover then more power to you. :) But Flight is not dead until it is no longer fun to fly. Some people still love the old Flight Unlimited series. I was a fanatic about FU in it's day and for a long time afterwards. I moved on to other stuff now but Flight has many miles left in it IMO. I sure intend to continue to use it for years to come. Not that I wouldn't like some more aircraft to use with it but the Flight versions of HI & AK are a very nice world to fly in. Being an old guy I'm not really comfortable with these newer games in which the content you buy is not really located on your system. It would be nice if MS could offer a DVD version that would allow us to not be dependant on their servers and might also give us some ability to manipulate the content. In FS(pick a number) I know how to take the 2 paints from the cockpitless Carbon Cub and put them with the complete CC and remove the useless one from the roster. I could also put the Red Tail skin with the other 2 Mustang paints and eliminate the extra P-51 hulk. I wouldn't know where to begin with Flight and I suspect that without some tools it would not be possible. In the old FU world a couple of years after Looking Glass went away a really smart FU fan got together with a old team member from LG and worked out how to build us an editor of sorts. Using his stuff I was able to improve some of the not so great early cockpits and others more artistically talented than myself made them much better. Eventually some guys who knew how to develop 3D models were abel to make whole new aircraft for that sim. Some guys were even able to develop additional scenery areas. The key was that none of us ever tried to make any money on it. We did it for the love of the sim. If we had tried to come out with commercial products I'm sure we would have been shutdown by some court in short order. It may well not be possible to do any of that with Flight but I would still like to be able to host Flight (for my own use only) on my own system. In any event I intend to continue to use Flight along with FSX and probably some others for a long time to come. Hang in there guys... the world ain't over even if continued development of Flight is. Have a good day, Tom Wunder

Don't know if it was the 1/2 refresh rate trick or simply the new nVidia drivers, but I haven't seen FSX run so good before. Quite surprising, really. I could use that. Jeroen, I have been saying this, in this forum (not in a trolling way) for some time..FSX really does run properly on my rig, now..In some places it ran better than FLIGHT! There are still devoted people out there beavering away still creating the FSX world..in many cases for free! I guess this is why the passion is so strong from some quarters when FLIGHT is discussed..FLIGHT should have been FS11 in many peoples eyes (mine included) FSX lives, and with some very expensive addons is now awesome, truly. Yes, I know its flaws; we all do. Let's not go there.. Everything worthwhile costs in some way or other,,Hopefully we'll all look back on the 26th July 2012 as the beginning of a new chapter in flight simming..Maybe MS exiting the building is the impetus the industry needs to make more of Aerofly; DCS; XP10 whatever..I'm going to keep flying and buying for FSX as long as I can afford to and have arms.. Well I myself will finally get going in the training and the learning curve of both DCS A-10C, and DCS I'd be interested to hear of your experiences, too Don..I spent a lot of the late 80's playing F-16 Combat Pilot, which had a persistent battlefield concept going on the Atari ST (and Amiga) way back then..They tried again with Falcon 4,0 and sort of achieved the "living world" thing, and I'd really rather not have to kill stuff to get it, but it really looks interesting..Keep us updated, please Regarding my onward journey..I never really deviated..To be honest, I hadn't played FLIGHT for the last two weeks..I got annoyed with it the last two times I played it. Stupid landing "bug" (bad flying bug) and went back to FSX..Bought some more amazing addons and just flew around PNW/BC/AK in the MilViz Beech 55..and you know what, truly, and I really did like FLIGHT for a few reasons, but...FSX is still great. It runs great, it has all the planes I want to fly (and I can customise them in many ways) and the scenery is awesome. FSX really has come a long way in many ways from FS9 (please let's not start an FS9/FSX thing here ) which as far as I can tell is the last iteration that a few of the forums users here experienced.. It is certainly true that to attain the levels of excellence I'm talking about costs a lot of money..In that respect, FLIGHT is (was) a breath of fresh air, but, and it is a big but, and notwithstanding (imo) FLIGHT's better FDM (at least in weather, and if you've not flown the Maule in FLIGHT in AK with the changeable weather theme, please do not comment!) FSX won for me..right through the paltry 445072 XP I attained in FLIGHT, I was always edging back to FSX..I'd play FLIGHT for a while, gaze at some of the great scenery, fly the quirky RV and get battered in the Maule, then go back to PNW in the mist..and that's where I think I'll stay for the forseeable future; flying up the Strait of Georgia, or circling Mt. St Helens, or botching a landing at Ketchikan... I'm really sad that MS canned FLIGHT; more sad than I was when I realised what it actually was...it really does mean much more than just FLIGHT getting canned, just not sure what, yet.. Onwards and upwards in the new Baytower RV7A I've just bought, I think... :p0503: JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
July 27, 201213 yr Onwards and upwards in the new Baytower RV7A I've just bought, I think... Yes, that's a great plane. I bought it december last year. I will be adding the RealAir Legacy to my hangar tomorrow. Something good that Flight did: it made me learn all about VOR and how to read approach plates and it made me buy rudder pedals. I never had those in FSX. Flying now in FSX with pedals is great: it certainly adds another dimension! I can actually fly with various weather conditions now: in the past I always disabled wind...
