New rig, opinions please

Featured Replies

Just decided on my new rig, but as it is my first build specifically for FSX, I would like some opinions please. Keep in mind I had a $1500.00 budget for this one.

CM Storm Scout case

ASUS Sabertooth z77 board

I7 3770K CPU

Corsair H80 Cooler

EVGA GTX 670FTW graphics card

Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz DDR3

WD 10000rpm velociraptor 300gb drive for windows 7 x64

I plan on reusing my Ultra 850 power supply from my old PC. The PSU is about 2 years old, but it runs very well so far.

Constructive comments only please.

Thanks,

Gary

drop the 10,000 RPM HD and get an SSD. Other than that you have an awesome system

Agree with the above. You can get 256GB SSDs for $160 on Newegg right now. Also, you should get faster RAM to really let Ivy Bridge stretch it's legs. 2400 is the sweet spot.

Intervention complete ^_^

Had to delete all consequent posts, sorry guys.

Can't. One account per IP. But if he does, I am sure you'll all do nice job reporting ^_^

Oh, he's banned? Good. With a dynamic IP, he could come back, but I doubt he'll want to do so. If he does, I'll summon the pirate. e5122153.gif

On-topic: While I know that SSDs can improve load times, do they have any advantage concerning FPS, stability or blurries? To be honest, I don't think so.

SSD = no FPS improvement. In some cases might improve blurries, but very rarely. Stability = no improvement.

SSD in FSX is basically all about loadtimes.

If you don't care much about that, get Vrap or WD black.

Thanks for all the info guys, I'll keep it all in mind.

Cheers,

Also, SSDs drastically improve sound file imports. When a new WAV file is played in FSX, the stutter is not nearly as bad when using an SSD vs an HDD.

OK, that too probably. Though on my WD, I never had a stutter because of that.

on my WD

Velociraptor or Caviar Black?

VRap. I never tried black.
