Of course both pilots participate but the pnf is the one who physically reads the card or manipulates the ecl so the pf can fly. In fs you have to do the job of both people. I always use checklists because many times it catches an item I forget such as strobe lights or setting the packs after engine start.

Whether you're going to read a paper checklist or use the ECL you can't hand fly at the same time (by yourself in the sim). So the AP would be on. You can read the ECL without clicking on the items that aren't automatically verified too. I can't see how anyone who already uses checklists could find the ECL an additional burden.

I'm just speaking from a personal perspective after flying the pss. Since I love to fly completly manually I just glance at the card and verify that the panel is in compliance, and plus everyone has a different opinion and way of doing things. The ecl is awesome but its something that I'm only going to use on the ground or above 18,000 feet.

You can always turn on the A/P while you you use the ecl than fly back maually again . For me i couldnt fly manually for the whole flight of 2 hours or more.

I don't fly the whole flight manually either, just below 18,000 feet if workloads permit which they usually do and the only time I fly on AP below that altitude is if I'm doing my monthly autoland test or if the weather calls for an autoland. Also what I meant by completely manually is that I handle both the controls and throttles, I didn't mean the whole flight. Like I said everyone has their own way of doing things.
