PMDG : Differences between NGX and 777

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

As it is over a year since the NGX release, I was wondering if the PMDG team could inform us, of any Flight simulator developments that we will see between the NGX AND 777.

For examplel

1) has more focus been driven to exterior textures [higher quality].

2) Better refresh times [flight surface deployments]

3) Better performance in the VC?

I thought the sunlight dashing off the displays was breath taking, is there any new simulator enhancements that you have put into the 777 that is not currently in the NGX?

Hi Alex :-) I don't think you will get an answer to that this way, meaning in this thread. I think it will come through an update. :-) But yes of course it would be nice to hear how the differences will be ;-) But I reckon that patience will be the best virtue. ;-)

I remember Robert saying that they had made a breakthrough with something and would let us know in a future update I believe. I still find myself wondering what this breakthrough was.

I look forward to finding out.

The major difference between the two:

B737: Released

B777: Not Released (yet)

Dude, not cool, you just made me very curious now :/

Seriously tho, do you still have the quote or something or are you 100% sure they did have a breakthrough? If yes, I can't wait to find out what it is. *prays* "Please, let it be the cockpit sharing"

I hope performance will be improved.. But that's really out of PMDG's control thanks to the crappy platform we have...

That was the one.

Its the fact you can click on the EFB within FSX, and Robert was mistaken, it has been done before, that was the excitement

I don't think that's what he was talking about, since it's no secret this is no breakthrough. Ryan already told us that we'll be able to use the pointer in the lower DU with the mouse within the sim, and the pointer in the EFB works just the same way. Robert hasn't yet mentioned what this breakthrough is.

Personally speaking I for one hope things like the Electronic Checklist are an option one can select to be ON or OFF...(at this point I'll also make it clear that I do understand that some items in ELCs are tied to the actual positions of control surfaces, buttons, switches & CDU entries etc).

Don't get me wrong...I am all for realism (even to the detriment of the external eye candy if necessary)...the last thing I want to be doing is attempting to co-ordinate my mouse inside the VC & aiming it down on to the lower Aisle Stand MFD whilst manually flying the last few thousand feet of an approach in gusty conditions.

The multicrew concept on the other hand......

EFBs are all well & good - but what do you expect from it? Manuals - yep probably...PERF Data...well...possibly (think PERF Manual & not the Boeing EFB equivalent of something like TOPCAT) but unlikely...access to a chart database...highly unlikely (who will update it for starters??).

+1.

They should bring out 2 versions in my opinion, one for the people who spawn and go (love looking at wing views, pretty things) and another version for people who actually WANT to SIMULATE it for what it is. I can't remember the last time I saw a 777 captain wing-walking with a GoPro because he liked looking at his aircraft from "spot view".

That aside, as Steve said, I'd love to see you flying in maximum allowable wind conditions whilst trying to navigate your way around an Electronic Checklist - alone. Good luck with that.

Two versions is a ridiculous idea, no offense. That would be a lot of work in the end, and really fragments development. They might as well be two separate products. If "spawn" (what is this? DnD?) and go is your thing, there are other developers for that...

I think the multicrew thing is always overblown by the simmer. Yes, the planes are designed for a two person operation, but it's not unreasonable to say one person could do it. Safely at all times? Probably not, but this is the sim. If you have enough foresight, it's really not that difficult. People always act as if they have to tune the LOC, twist the CRS, manage the AP, put the gear and flaps down, and then go mess with the lights, on top of changing frequencies to tower all at the same time, while shooting an approach to minima.

I'll tell ya what. If you have to do that, you're not doing it right.

A PA-44 is a one person job, and I'd argue you've got your hands full of a lot more than you would as one person in a 777. Just because it's regulated to be one way doesn't mean that it's impossible to do it another.
