Fsx Running out of memory

Featured Replies

I think DX10 Preview mode possibly has better memory management or better programming.

It is only because of the fact that with DX10 and 11 you don't have to map whole VRAM to memory and this saves considerably VAS and memory.

DX10 preview, incomplete DX10 graphics engine, has always exhibited performance increase at the expense of quality. The external enhancement of AA is not taking place. The graphics engine itself is incomplete and unable to use DX10's potential, which utilzes rescources more efficiently and DX11 even better. If you can bust into the graphic engine and fix that. You will really have something. The fix of the runway and other items flicking is is a great accomplishment but does nouthing for the AA and DX10 graphic engine or fixes DX10 preview lack of AA quality.

Thank you! That's the first time I've seen that written. It's very hard to find any precise info on 'why the different performance': AA being another can of worms. There must be some kind of enhancement going on because Sparse Grid settings modify shimmering, as does the water setting... not that I understand what Sparse Grid actually is..

Little off topic, but if you are interested, this is how it goes:

SGSS is pretty similar to SSAA, which has the highest IQ, but it is also the toughest to calculate. For example with 4xSSAA your GPU calculates 4 times the pixel amount of your set resolution and averages the colour of one represented pixel. It is heavy, because in this example your GPU consumes the bandwidth and calculation power of 7680 x 4320 regular pixels, if you are running on 1080p. With tripleview systems and 3D systems you really hit tremendous amounts of pixels to count and it brings your GPU on its knees for sure.

SGSS is a compromise where algorithm "estimates" where this same technique is wise to use, that is for example, it doesn't calculate multiple pixels for pixels comprising completely vertical or horizontal lines. This saves strain on GPU considerably, but IQ is also a bit worse. SSAA is actually called, if I remember correctly, RGSSAA or Regular Grid Super Sampling, and thus SGSSAA is Sparse Grid.

Man - you should take up Rendi Feldman's suggestion -

Do you think LM doing this with P3D?

Funny. My previous setting was 768, and not 512. And I looked on the net, they say that W7 X64 default is 768. Why you had 512 as default beats me...

I stand corrected, that was a typo....

I am doing some more testing. My Chicago location with three add ons. Fly Tampa Midway, FSDT O'Hare and Aerosoft City Chicago... Its a repeatable OOM (at dusk/Night) with 737NGX. (before this fix)

This time, post fix. I did not get the OOM...but when I did move around fast between the three location I managed to get the OOM.

It does help...but a little. As per that article posted by The Family man (http://blogs.technet...s-stations.aspx) , I shouldn't increase the value much more. Hmmm.... I want to see what would happen if I go beyond the 1K (the third parameter). If my OS freezes and refuses to boot, would I be able to go in safe mode and revert back? System restore? :P

Another thing I tried while watching the VAS, I kept moving many of the sliders to the left...but that did not change the VAS consumed.

What is the least beneficial thing I can turn off or reduce to avoid OOM? Any ideas?

System restore? :P

System restore would only work if you installed via a FixIt installer. If you manually edit the registry, system restore doesn't kick in. You would need to backup the OS via some imaging program like Acronis True Image.

Well? Tell us how it goes! :P

LOD has the most impact on the OOM (or better said VAS usage).

You mean me!? With my coding skills? No way that can be done, ever.

Besides, you would need the source code to modify the program, and most likely the documentation to do anything (at least it would be extremely helpful). You can't modify compiled binaries and reverse engineering, that is decompiling or even deassembling is quite impossible for something this complicated. Second, even if it would be possible, it would be illegal to modify and distribute copyrighted software.

Do you think LM doing this with P3D?

LM has the SC and rights to further develop it. LM has already changed code for Shader Model 3 and done some other smaller modifications too. P3D 2.0, coming out during 2013, will experience pretty deep graphics engine rewrite as it is uses DX11 API.

So, yes of course LM is doing it.

Of course. It was only a lame joke. My feeble attempts at injecting humour into these posts doesn't always work.

I already assumed that LM had all of the ACES team's work, but have not been following their progress.

Thanks for your info.

Thanks for all the reply's i am now going to purchase a SSD hard-drive for better performance as-well as a new graphic car =)
