New quick look at the DC-9 by Coolsky

Very nice! Finally someone takes the time do a video review!

I might have to reconsider after watching this.... Looks very tempting...

Color me skeptical but was that video recorded with FS Recorder and played back at 30+ FPS? If not, I'd love to see how he got that sweet framerate in the VC.

Thanks for that, makes me feel good! Definitely filmed live, even I was surprised that fraps had NO noticeable effect on frames. Not even 1.

No, I don't work for Intel :-)

You have a soothing voice hehe! It made me sleepy (not that the video was boring)... nice video review.

Nice review(s), yours and the linked one from froogle. That thing with the fixed pointer was funny. ^_^ And you kept cool when stalling.

I get the impression that some bugs, minor and a bit above that, are still there. So my list now covers the Coolsky but has added 'wait for SP1' to it. Does that sound reasonable?

Absolutely. I'm usually one on the fence when a new product comes out -- I'll typically wait for the first SP or hotfix. I know I got burned with the NGX and $70 for two weeks after launch. I learned my lesson (actually, apparently I didn't).

Thanks for the review, Simmo!

Oh, now that we have the thumb up feature back, I did so on Simmo's post.

Thanks for the input, Zach. I must admit that the system detail and the failures really are the main point for me. I love the steam gauge planes of mine so much, but none of them features a proper failure sim in the background, so the DC-9 would be a first then.

The menu stuff Coolsky did looks really amazing. That's from watching at the vids and reading the free manuals.

Did Simmo survive the smoke at the end of the video by the way? :Worried:

  • Author

Thanks chaps! Yes Im fine, in the end it was just smoke coming from my CPU :-)

The plane is in excellent nick considering it's just out, im glad I've got it. Half it's value is in those detailed tutorials. And that manual, it's a huge effort, not just a cut and paste job from a mouldy POH.

Strange, that first landing really was my first, quite happy. But the second was terrible, however was after flying 'direct' from Essendon, NO time to line up. Safer to catch the bus next time.
