Server problems ?

Featured Replies

Dunno about you but my Steam works fine :P

It's not that I have a problem with something like that happening once in a Blue Moon...sure servers fail etc. I'm just disappointed that it seems to become a more and more "frequent" problem...I love Hi-Fi for ActiveSky and it's probably not even their fault I dont know...it just sucks to be at the recieving...or rather not recieving end in this case.

After all imho it's the best weather program for FSX available today and I'd hate to use something else so yeah.

And yes I'm statisfied with something that works. You don't know about my support for a company or the hobby in general so don't judge it. :)

Some really need to relax, let out a sigh like I did, make sure you have a tix opened as this is no longer an official support mechanism and then find something else to do until the issue is resolved.

And I don't see censorship, my sigh is still there :)

Fair enough. But:

Makes me wonder if I will ever buy one of their products again

So here is a serious question...

How do we prevent ASE from becoming unusable when this happens? I operate in online mode so when this happens it searches and searches then says that it will enable offline mode. Then it errors out and tells me that it needs to re-enable online mode and to restart. This creates a loop I can not get out of...

So how do I ensure that when this does happen I can still use ASE and it is not useless???

So, I'm not entitled to voice my opinion as a customer that bought a product twice? (i have two machines so yeah different story i will not go into)

You see all I'm expecting as a customer is a working piece of software and at the very least some degree of communication from the Developer...yes the degree of communication has happend and I'm okay with that. What I'm not okay with is the time it took until that communication has happend. As somebody stated a while ago having a delay like this in this day and age is, well, not ideal at best.

Afterall they provide a service to their customers, whats wrong with the customers expecting speedy support when something goes amiss? Sure one could argue that "you get what you pay for" and it's a one time purchase and not a monthly thing etc. but in all honesty I would even be okay with that, and pay a monthly fee, when in turn something like this does not happen as frequently as it's starting to.

At the end of the day I've been or rather I am a long time HiFi customer and Fan of their products. Things like this just start to leave a bad taste is all I'm trying to say.

If you guys look above they said they were aware of the problem. What does that mean for you? I know this is extremely hard for some of you but chill out and go outside and get some fresh air. Whinning is not gonna get it fixed any faster. If you gotta fly that you can use FSX, Squawkbox, FSINN or REX Weather engines. It's not the end of the world!

When I see the above the problem is not the lack of availability of the servers but the slow reaction from HIFI. I think if withing a few hours (and not 10) there was a reaction from HIFI in the order Chris told us then we would not have this discussion.

I'm still happy with AS2012.

Only I they fixed it befor I land at RJGG :P

You absolutely are entitled your opinion, and I'm there with you, Tobias. I am more engaging in a personal conversation (Not as a mod, not in affiliation with the product's team, etc) in regards to the rather "extreme" statements made as soon as things go awry. It's jumping the gun awfully soon to make a statement about rather or not future iterations will be purchased due to this inconvenience, don't you think?

Define "speedy". How long has the product been unusable for you? What time constraints are placed on a product support service to deem it "not speedy"? Several hours for a server outage seems reasonable to me. Especially considering as long as I've used Hi-Fi's countless weather programs, I can't say I've been disappointed with the support or usability.

Another poster even insinuated censorship.

Still not working for me. I have the same "Going Offline, No Go Online, No go offline" loop. Is it frustrating, yes. I enjoy flying something other than a 172 on my days off. But really it's no big deal, if all else fails I bet the default weather engine still works.

Still down, but I can wait; I'm just somewhat relieved to know it's not a problem with my computer exclusively.

Censorship? meh couldn't say that in this specific case really.

As far as speedy goes, well, that purley depends on the scale of things for sure, but then reading some users having problems for around 10 hours? Thats a pretty long time to me. Yes obviously I do not know where the HiFi HQ is located, I don't know where the servers are located, who hosts them yadda yadda. But then there is something like the Internet wich enables pretty much instant communication about something. I don't know how early the HiFi Guys were aware of the issue but, to me, it seemed quite some time until they posted here.

As far as my intentions to continue or not continue to purchase their, granted, wonderful products go all I can say is that something like this is not happening for the first time, granted I may be a little extreme in my idea of reliability especially in software and or servers, also considering the price we paid for it, but then I have been known to not buy or continue buy things for way less.

All I really want or rather would like at the end is a little quicker forum/community response from the guys working on it. Yes maybe they're busy as all hell trying to fix the issue but then on the other hand it does take 2 minutes to write a quick statement about whats going on.

I really hope I'm not pissing anybody off with my ranting really...just frustration. At the end of the day I'll be a very happy camper when its all working again.

Best Regards

Tobias Gruber

On another note, this seems like a good time to dust off the good ole REX weather engine and see if it still breaths :)
