Server problems ?

Featured Replies

Define "speedy". How long has the product been unusable for you? What time constraints are placed on a product support service to deem it "not speedy"? Several hours for a server outage seems reasonable to me. Especially considering as long as I've used Hi-Fi's countless weather programs, I can't say I've been disappointed with the support or usability.

Just to add, I believe they are located in the Western US, if so they were probably asleep in bed when this happened, This is supported by the acknowledgement of the problem by Chris Willis at what would be 9:17AM PDT. Depending on the type of problem they are having it could take some time to correct. People here seems way too demanding on their expectations. If this was a subsription service, you may have an issue, but you can't expect a company that provides a service like this that is not a subsription service to have 24/7 support. I think a 24 hour window would be more appropriate here. I just requested warranty service for my Washer, and given a repair date of Oct 3. So a day for this is nothing!!

Thanks

HAHAHAHA.. Well said!

If you guys look above they said they were aware of the problem. What does that mean for you? I know this is extremely hard for some of you but chill out and go outside and get some fresh air. Whinning is not gonna get it fixed any faster. If you gotta fly that bad you can use FSX, Squawkbox, FSINN or REX Weather engines. It's not the end of the world!

It has been down for some 10+ hours prior to your post. Someone finally acknowledged after about 10 hour downtime. Again I say, in this day and age with mobile devices and email alerts, etc.... this should not be. Mobile devices and what not are what lets very small niche companies like this get info fast out to customers.

Gentlemen,

it's absolutely ridiculous whats going on here. You all don't know whats going on in the background. Maybe they are working hardly to get that problem working and it's nothing they can fix easily. It's then no help to answer to whiningly complaining people which are just flaming around and complaining like we're all going to die soon. You know what I did after I recognized it's not working anymore? I went outside and did something different. Yeah, indeed, thats possible! Trust me and try by yourself...

Just a hint: why don't we all let them their time to fix it? Would be much better...

If the servers are down, why does it error when it tries to use previously downloaded weather?

Does it still need to hit the downed server for the magic decryption key for weather previously downloaded?

I went outside and did something different.

Can't, it's pouring rain. Hence my desire to fly.

Exactly, that is my issue... When it cant download it becomes useless...

The other thing that is disturbing is this is becoming a monthly occurrence. Even their support page references the outage in July, then August, now one in September. I think it is time to look into some better redundancy. Why is it that everytime one server goes down the other is unavailable??? Isn't that why you have 2 servers?

Why hello to you too...and welcome to the forums!

I don't know how Hifi has their servers hooked up, and there are way too many variables regarding them to try and speculate. Their main website and support site are operational, so that tells me that they are on different servers. Do they administer their own servers? I know that the server administrators for very large forums can have notifications for alarms, reboots, shutdowns, etc sent via text to their cell phones...as well as other communications. If that were the case, the guys at Hifi would have been alerted to an issue immediately.

Another possibility (and the one I believe is most probable) is that Hifi is not at fault at all...rather the company that provides the wx data to them is having issues.

I do agree that all of this talk about censorship and temper tantrum throwing is ridiculous and quite childish. **** happens. Deal with it.

Haha. Eric, I feel for you! Between homework and the beautiful weather outside, I've had plenty else to do.

If someone gets a response via ticket or email, I think we'd all be interested in the response.

wow I finally had time to fly and the servers are down.. sure I could use the fsx default engine if I want to spend a bunch of time messing with my settings or I could put up with my NGX doing it's best to make the passengers puke.
