Good FMC for NGX with only USB

Featured Replies

I'm still undecided what to purchase - either fds or OC cdu. I'm headed towards fds due to cdu bay compatibility and their customer support but it is nearly twice the price of the OC one.

Does anyone know if pmdg ngx has to run in window mode if you have the cdu outputting from another video card?

I ordered the FDS CDU last week when it comes ill post some pics. If your going to get one do it right and get one from Peter Cos, he makes the best ones out there imo high contrast color screen

full size and built like a tank the best customer service you can call him direct anytime and talk to him

This is probably irrelevant....I used to use a Mimo UM-740 7 inch usb monitor as a fmc - worked great in windowed mode, something happened over time which halved the FPS in windowed mode so I stopped using it, if you get good FPS in windowed mode I would recommend it. You don't have physical buttons, but for £150 it is a descent enough option.

...if you want a proper FMC hardware, forgive me and ignore the above.

Hi, may I have more info about Mimo UM-740 ? It is a secondary monitor for the system. I'm using win7 64bit and I'm flying full screen mode, did you try to use it in Full, it is able to work and it is supported on W7 64 ? ( I see some specifics but nothing say about W764 )

Thanks in advance

Hi to all,

Lots of answers, but not really one for a CDU with only USB.

_andreas_ say, a new version of the SDK. Can we hope for or no?

Tui737, if your engravity work with the NGX, can you explain?

Yes I've this unit and I hope to use with my favorite...

Thanks for your answers.

Really hapy to see this post in the dark side of the forum.

I know we're just 10 or 20 to use this material but...

Can we hope an answer to our question? As this element is not free? I don't needan other...

PS: Apologise for my bad english, it's not my native and I try to be clear...

Be cool if someone made and FMC which interchangable faces/buttons. So you could use it for a 73 MD11 A3XX etc...wouldnt that be a cool idea, just change the Face and the Buttons on it to match the type of plane you fly!

Ron, that could be a bit problematic, if the buttons are different, you need a different wiring, a way to connect them to "body", a way for the body to see what kind of "frame" is on it... I suppose that design and construction cost could get too high.

I suppose that to a certain extent a combo of touchscreen display (resistive) and frame overlay could work. But again, I am not sure if that would be financially feasible to produce in a competitive way.

Yesterday I received the OpenCockpits FMC v3, which I tried quickly (not too much time).

I wired up VGA/USB/Power and it immediately worked. Looks very nice as well, and feels very good. Together with the beta-drivers from Andreas I got the buttons working in FSX within seconds.

Now however, I have a problem with the PMDG NGX FMC screen. When I undock the FMC and drag it to the FMC screen, it's way too small. Ok, so I just resize the window, and it'll be fine. Well yes, untill I found out that there's a max window size for the extra FSX windows. I now have the problem that I get the view wide enough, but not high enough, making the menu-entries on the FMC screen not align with the buttons of the hardware FMC.

Is there a way to make the screen size bigger for the instrument panels, or does PMDG also provide only the FMC screen as an additional view? The latter would be best, but I highly doubt that function is there.

If You have an iPad there is an app called air display. With that you can connect the iPad with your pc via wifi, and simply drag the cdu to the iPad. Works perfect for me.

Hi Laszlo,

Thanks for the info, but I've got the hardware FMC from Opencockpits, which has an internal screen. I'd like to have the FMC on this screen, but only the text area at the top, not the buttons (they are there hardware-wise).

I can post a picture tonight which shows my problem.

Is there a way to make the screen size bigger for the instrument panels, or does PMDG also provide only the FMC screen as an additional view? The latter would be best, but I highly doubt that function is there.

You're in luck because PMDG actually do provide exactly that feature :biggrin:

The trick is to define a new 2d panel in panel.cfg and specify the gauge CDU_Screen (rather than the default "CDU" , which contains both the display and the buttons). It would be something like this:

[Window02]
background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=385,600
window_size=0.13,0.535
position=8
visible=1
ident=958
zorder=99
gauge00=PMDG_737NGX!CDU_Screen,0,0,390,625,L #0

You can then use shift+2 to toggle this window. You may need to adjust the size (390,625 in the example) to fit your setup.

Thanks! that indeed works. Just got to finetune the window size settings.

Also I found out that with that driver the exec button does not light up. It does light up when loading the driver, but not when programming the FMC in the NGX with route data.

Do you know if it's just the EXEC button that doesn't light up when it should?

If it's not just that button, the data broadcasting from the NGX is likely not enabled.

In that case, edit the file <FSXROOT>\PMDG\PMDG 737 NGX\737NGX_Options.ini and

add the following two lines at the bottom:

[sDK]

EnableDataBroadcast=1

Andreas

I was also thinking of getting a CDU. These options with the VGA, do they all imply that you drag the CDU from the main screen onto the CDU screen via VGA? Does that require a 2nd VGA card in your computer and/or windowed screen?

Are there solutions with USB only (Engravity is USB only), but is the screen also multicolored, supporting also more colors like NGX does, white and magenta I think, and also does it support menu function of NGX? The setup, load etc?

I read through the thread, but still have these questions unanswered...
