Demo and LWE

Featured Replies

Hello there,

I'm interested in testing the LWE of OpusFSX in demo mode before purchasing.

Please anyone can tell me how LWE works in demo mode? If I understand correctly it's totally disabled, is this right?

Thanks in advance

Hi Stefano

I am afraid your are correct, the LWE is completely disabled in demo mode. The demo mode was really intended to help cockpit builders set up their network connections and give Live View a try before committing to the purchase.

You can get some idea of the LWE from our Flight1 forum (Beautiful Flight ! Topic) and from general user's comments. In a nutshell, the weather is real, consistent, varied and detailed. The clouds look more realistic due to the added control we have built into the LWE.

Hi Stephen,

thanks for your reply.

I'm interested in Opus after many very positive comments from your satisfied customers. Anyway I'd like to try myself the software, just to make sure it's what I expect from it.

It would be nice if you can add in the demo some kind of time-limited LWE.

In the meantime I will continue to follow the developement (the wind smoothing incorporated in the last build is definitely a plus, if it works of course :P - just kidding!), and maybe one day I will become your customer.

Bye

S.

Announcement ...

The Live Weather Engine (LWE) can now be used in a limited fashion in 10 minute Demonstration Mode.

In demo mode, the LWE will only generate and load live weather while the aircraft is on the ground, also the live weather is limited to cover an area 256km x 256km. In other words extending 128km (80 miles) in all directions, beyond this range the weather becomes global and unvaried. After the demo period has ellapsed all weather is cleared to blue skies.

lol That's outstanding!

I'm really happy to hear that we now have a working LWE demo, I will of course give it a shot ASAP.

Thanks Stephen, really appreciated.

Stephen, I have downloaded and wanting to try in demo mode and apart from a single brief test, all I get is a continuous ringing and the GUI saying the demo is disabled for 2 minutes. No matter when I click on the weather tab and the OK button, I don't get weather injected. BTW the one time I did get weather injected the RW outside was showing 8/8 cloud with complete strato cu and what I ended up with was 4/8 cloud of mostly cumulus. Is there something I am not doing? BTW, I live only a couple of miles from EGGD where I have been trying to test. Thanks...

Hi Howard

The demo should last for 10 mins followed by a 2 minute period when it is disabled but you should be able to run it up again after that. Not sure what the ringing is. Also the weather should be correct as long as you have Live Weather enabled and the Import METAR File is not ticked. You can inject the weather by clicking OK on the Weather dialog or using the FSX addon menu. I assume your FSX installation directory is correct since you would receive an error message otherwise. If you open the spy window you should see the METARs listed as OpusFSX generates the weather.

You could try upgrading to the latest beta or re-installing if that doesn't work.

I'm looking for a weather utility. I want lower altitude accurate realistic depiction especially on an IFR approach. Apparently they are working on upper winds and that will be welcome when it arrives.

After you try the Demo do you uninstall it then install the full package? Is the demo enough to decide that this is the weather package of choice? I want to buy only one weather generator and this sounds like the most promising for me.

Many thanks for any responses.

Dave

I have been testing against WX Lite and the new REX WE, and I have to admit, albeit fairly short tests, Opus has come out on top and gives the most accurate depiction.

Hi Dave

You can run the purchase file which will install the licence and change your demo to UNLIMITED mode. From there you can upgrade to the latest beta by unzipping into the OpusFSX folder.

Thanks Cheryl.

Hopefully it's as simple as it sounds as I might be considered "computer challenged".

Question.... I'm pretty much sold that your product is the was to go so would I be further ahead just to purchase? Also, PM to you with a question.

Hi Dave

We have a 30 day refund policy if you are not happy with the software, so I would say give it a try.

Hello, I downloaded the demo today and I have to say, it's a heck of a lot more accurate than Rex+ is, but the only thing is that I still have the cloud swirling/popping when I'm flying around, and I can see straight through to the ground sometimes (though it depicts a much better ovc than Rex+) when overcast. As far as I know, this isn't supposed to be the case with Opus, are there any specific settings that I need to change in order to achieve the solid overcast?

Never mind: changed the cloud coverage density and it's working perfect now

The ringing is OPUS alerting you to start TrackIR.
