September 29, 201213 yr Hello all. I am most likely upgrading significantly in the next 6 months. I will be getting an i7 3770K. The Mobo is an ASUS Z77 (sorry, don't remember which submodel.) Could anyone recommend a GPU for use with that? Right now, I'm thinking about a 660 2GB EVGA Superclocked. Or, would a 660Ti be better? ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
September 29, 201213 yr Nvidia GTX 660 Ti. Get an ASUS board if you are willing to spend 20-30 dollars more. Comes overclocked. Brendan H
September 29, 201213 yr Author The mobo is ASUS, but thanks. Why does the ti have an advantage over a standard 660 EVGA superclocked? ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
September 29, 201213 yr The Ti variant is actually a different chip than the non-Ti, it has more shader processors onboard and is therefore a good deal faster.
September 29, 201213 yr Author The Ti variant is actually a different chip than the non-Ti, it has more shader processors onboard and is therefore a good deal faster. Ah ha, I see. Well, if I can afford the ti, I will get it. If not, what is the best option? ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
September 29, 201213 yr Ah ha, I see. Well, if I can afford the ti, I will get it. If not, what is the best option? If the 660Ti is too expensive, go for the less expensive and inferior GTX660. (non-ti) Just a side note, I would highly recommend that you try to spend as much as you can for the GPU. I know many people discredit this for FSX usage but, GPUs are important especially if you are going to use SGSS to smooth everything out.
September 29, 201213 yr Author Nvidia GTX 660 Ti. Get an ASUS board if you are willing to spend 20-30 dollars more. Comes overclocked. The exact model is the CrossFireX] GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H Intel Z77 Chipset DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ IRST, Lucid Virtu MVP, Ultra Durable4 Classic, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, 2x Gen3 PCIe x16, 3x PCIe x1 & 2 PCI (Extreme OC Certified) Is this overclocked? If the 660Ti is too expensive, go for the less expensive and inferior GTX660. I think that fortunately, I can afford the ti. ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
September 30, 201213 yr Author This new rig looks to cost $1600. My, how inflation has risen    ! Looks like lots of work to pay for it. Hope it's worth it B) . ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee

I meant get an ASUS branded GPU (The ASUS GTX 660 Ti Direct CU II TOP) if you can afford it. It's very close performance wise to the GTX 670 and is overclocked out of the box. The motherboard is fine for overclocking your CPU and other bits. Brendan H
September 30, 201213 yr Author On the webpage of the seller, I see no ASUS branded GPU, in fact, I've never heard of one. Could you perhaps provide a link for me? Thanks! ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
September 30, 201213 yr Try looking at the Newegg site. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121656&Tpk=asus%20gtx660ti Bert
September 30, 201213 yr Author Would the ASUS or a EVGA superclocked be better? Also, should I opt for the 2GB 660 or the 3? ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
September 30, 201213 yr Both Asus and EVGA are reputable brands... so whichever you feel more comfortable with. 2 GB is more than enough for FSX.. Bert
September 30, 201213 yr Author Thanks a lot, Bert! Really helped out with that last post. :Peace: I think I'll go EVGA, as it is available from the manuafacturer, and I'd rather not install myself. ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
