Went multi-platform...

I'll have to look at it with my glasses on, but, after having bought ( i shouldn't... ) one of the best / most acclaimed add-ons for FSX, and having set my graphics top-notch in the sim, and being able to do it thanks to Word Not Allowed's tweaks, I still miss the better overall look of the intrument panels in X-Plane10 ( well, I really don't miss it - I have it after all :-) )

With the higher texture level in the Rendering Options of X-Plane10 I can get a very crisp image, but again, I will have to check it more carefully. Now, for sure, that add-on with a great panel for FSX is still less crisp / realistic than any of the CArenado's I bought for X-Plane10 :-/

Now do one with the instrument lights off as my shot was and compare it to the same product in FSX as I did-after all we are multi sim users and can actually compare! (I also run with HDR off-don't really care for the effects-at least as presently implemented).

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Ahhh time, something I do not have much of. I would rather be flying than comparing, and I too have both XP10 and FSX. LOL

Windows 11 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Asus Prime Z690 | i7 12700KF HT | DeepCool LS520 SE | MSI 5070 Ti Ventus OC | 64GB G.Skill XMP II | Lian Li 216 LANCOOL RGB | TrackIr v5 | Honeycomb Alfa - Bravo - Charlie | MSFS 2024 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Curved 27" MSI | JBL Quantum 810

..and I'd rather do both. Since Xplane has a developer who is constantly in motion- why not compile the flaws and even areas where it can come up to snuff with a 6 year old no longer competing product to help it grow into the best platform.

I will be interested to see jcomms next shot but between Gorans gamma suggestion and jcomms turning the instrument llight s on I am beginning to think this is a way of lighting Xplane does when the sun is behind you. Interestingly, I have never had a problem reading instruments in this state, but have when the sun is directly on them making it sometimes necessary to cup ones hand over the instrument to clearly see it.

Another possibility is that Xplane still does not adjust for all monitor resolutions-in my case 1920x1080.

In any case one tiny part of a whole that keeps me multi simming- because I want to fly and recreate the whole experience.

The other sim.... well... mahem....

When an aircraft that is supposed to turn feet on the floor, requires persistent rudder input, and that because otherwise it won't sideslip...

When a twin reacts so milddly to an engine out bellow the blue line...

When that same twin, or a single of equally high quality, constant-speed prop, reacts so faintly to an iddled throttle...

When there are no problems starting your turboprop without worriing about hot starts... and you don't have to look for beta range, because there's really no such thing...

When the default scenery gives you a desert with repeating patches of texture, and it's the southern east border of Portugal, west Spain, with it's beautiful mountains, and patches of green and brown in RL...

When the ATC instructs me to contact each and every tower bellow 18000', on my way climbing to my first cruise level...

When helicopters fly... well...don't fly llike helicopters...

When gliders, even the best, feel all but realistic... and there are no plausible thermals, or even worse - mountain / ridge lift...

When my clouds, ovc, suddenly disappear because I transited into an area where a different METAR or no METAR info is available... the same happening to wind/turbulence... ruining my 3 hr Leveld767 flight ... or the winds aloft do that for me, even with the very latest FSUIPC DLL... or, the temperature layers are maddly varying while cruising... when in RL a 1-2ºC variation will many times announce severe turbulence ahead...

but above all, when I miss the sensation X-Plane10 gave me...

Even having the Sun and the Moon in their proper places, those nice thunderstorm clouds, and even those great seazonal textures, is not enough....

And yes, that huge / irrealistic roll on torque irritates me, and the lack of proper tire friction that makes any small / medium GA weathercock on a 10knot wind as soon as the parking brake is released is also pretty irritating, but I'll keep making my point and trying to get it better, just as I did with the variable wind in METAR, and the turbulence... and it's now very plausible IMHO...

Now the Xplane sim-on krnm Rey 27 at 9 am-with all instrument lights out-if we are gonna compare let's do it the same-and I can clearly read the instruments in your above shot.

Jcomm-re your other points you must have added..

-yes I don't fly the Carenado Baron on either platform-not their most stellar aircraft in the fm dept though it is the best available for xplane now.

Since you mention rudder input-I've noticed the last few xplane betas need little if any-very odd went you point the nose up in a single and the ball stays centered. I agree about the prop sounds-I've been complaining about that in the fs world for years-there are a few now that do it.

..and I am glad xplane is your only or primary sim. I thought this thread was about multi simming-it is still not my primary-though I'd like it to be for one major reason.

I have a 3 year old computer that I know will die soon. I simply can not face another reinstall of my hundreds of fsx add ins. The ability to backup xplane and easily reinstall it is why I wish it could be my primary sim. So I'll keep working on the things that I think need work so that it can be.

Sorry for the long answer, and diverting from my OP... :-( For me it was even worse, after having spent a whole weekend trying to really feel back at home with the other sim, specially now that it runs so smoothly like never before, and I could get back the LevelD767, and the RAirs... :-/

P.S.: Email Austin - describe you own RL experience with the Baron55, and maybe we can have something even better in terms of geting rid of the huge torque roll after 10.20 is released ;-)

I managed to get all of the props behaving a lot more realistically, but I had to cheat... and that's not good, so, I ended up using trim only... trim tabs and trim control when available, or yoke when no trim available in RL and I certainly do not want to use it in the sim either... Roll due to torque and the lack of proper tire friction in X-Plane10 are my biggest grips right now... Then the Sun and the Moon ( duh! ), but, the rest is more than enough to keep me with it (and ELITE ...)

And the Carenado's even turned that awful tire screetch away :-)))))

Ok-your shot does look clearer than mine-so the next question would be what resolution are you running at, what are your gamma settings (I see barely any glass reflection) (and why do you have oceans-are you only running the demo?)

Thanks -I will give your gamma a try. Yes -the tire squeeling is nice to get rid og-though the gear sounds like a 172-never heard a Baron creak like that but after all it is a Beech :)

Very strange-I had my gamma already at 2.5 so I tried higher settings. Then I played with my monitor settings, video card settings-turned up antialising-no change. If I change to the mid afternoon they clear up nicely-anything in the morning they are dark and blurry. Maybe we need a daytime darkness setting?

Yep that could be the problem Geof, also I've notice that if I go very high on AntiAliasing, it will cause text to be blurry. I do not see any of the problems that you mention, but I do have my AA setting at 4x.
