Black flashes and scenery tearing

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have just reinstalled FSX and am reasonably happy with everything. Decent frames and stable install for the most part. I'm using Word Not Allowed's tweaks and have also installed the ENB module which is great!

However, I am experiencing black tile flashes with scenery as well as black vertical tearing of scenery, especially when panning. Does anyone know what this could be attributed to?

I have a GTX460 Nvidia card with the latest driver, a 950 i7 @ 4Ghz, and 4 Ghz RAM.

Help appreciated

I had a similar issue with ENB enabeled. Ended up removing ENB to get it fixed

Except with me is was happening pre-ENB ..

Hmmmm... Do you have DX10 preview checked? Wouldn't know what it could be?

Is it aritifacting or lack of Vsync/tearing? Windowed mode, fullscreen or both. The tearing should be resolved with Vsync settings. Seems the black boxes was discussed and setting water to 1X high helped. Also some differences in Bufferpools settings.

Atifacting

Good question posted, because I have the same GPU, same issues occasionally. Will be interesting to read the solutions.

I've also got the GTX460 and it is rock solid, no tearing...

My guess is that the add-ons and tweaks are the problem.

As a test, fly without ENB and with no Bufferpools settings in the fsx.cfg file.

See if it all goes away, and work your way from there.

For what it is worth, my Bufferpool settings are:

[bufferPools]

UsePools=1

PoolSize=30000

Are you using *******' UsePools=0 tweak? If so that is probably what is causing it. Try setting Water to 2Xhigh, that seems to resolve the issue (or at least greatly reduces the occurrence of it) Of course that will reduce performance a little, which I think isn't really solving the issue but masking it. I don't think that VSYNC works properly with this tweak causing the problem when frames spike above your monitors refresh rate. By adding the extra shader pass, reduces performance enough that eliminates or at least minimizes these spikes. Your only other option would be not to use the tweak, but FSX doesn't seem to run as smooth without it.

Thanks

Bert, again your advice has worked for me. I changed the Bufferpool setting to your setting and that seems to have cleared it. Thank-you.

Thanks all
