AFCAD Hangs...

Featured Replies

Tried to use AFCAD 2.21 (last build that Im aware of..) today to correct the parking and AI for Shervs new KSNA scenery...however when I went to launch it, it hangs up. Starts to collect airports, then totally locks up and uses 100 pct of the CPU. Never happened before. Thinking this might have something to do with the new scenery, I removed it from the sim and tried again. (having recompiled the scenery.cfg and database first.) Still hangs up. I tried to blow away the ini file to see if that would help, no dice. Tried reinstall fresh AFCAD.exe from downloaded files...no good. All I get is a warning that the tool is 6 months old and to look for a newer build (is there one?). Otherwise no idea why theres a problem. And I did reboot as well after the hang up.Eric

I've used AfCad 2.21 for some time and this has never happened to me. The newest version I know of is afcad221_138006.zip but I'm not sure how it differs from the previous version. Probably has to do with the addition of some features. If you don't have this version I would suggest downloading it, though I just tried a search and couldn't find it here. Otherwise I wonder if Lee Swordy can help? If not I could email it to you. Just email me [email protected] if you want me to send it.

It hung up on me for the first time today as well. I wanted to make sure I didn't have duplicate KMIA AFCADS because I recently purchased the FlyTampa KMIA scenery. When I went to collect airports it bogged down. It took forever, but eventually it finished its search. Checking again, it's still taking quite some time to search all the airports, but after a few minutes it finishes. Kinda weird.

Hi,Just thought I'd let you know that you can use a nice little program called ScanAFD 'scanafd.zip' that searches for duplicate AFCAD2 file, and lists nice info about them. It doesn't matter what the name of the AFCAD2 file is, in case some of your AFCAD2's don't follow the AF2_XXXX.bgl naming convention. If one is named 23.bgl and another is named AF2_KIAH.bgl and they are both for KIAH, they will show up as duplicates. If it finds a duplicate, You can check out some of the differences between the two AFCADS and decide which one you want to keep. :) A very handy utility!Filename: scanafd.zipAuthor: Eliot RogersDescription: This utility is intended to help streamline the managing of AFCAD 2.x AFD files for Flight Simulator 2004. The program reads ICAO codes from each addon AFD file installed and provides a straight-forward means of identifying duplicate airports and renaming or deleting these files. The program can also search for AFDs within scenery addons and identify conflicting files across different sceneries. The app will also display facilities details from within each AFD (parking spots, parking codes and runways), giving you more information when deciding which file to keep out of one or more duplicates.Cheers,Jim

I have just encountered the AFCAD hanging when you try to open airports. I have the most recent version. This could be date related? Time limit on the program?Lee

I doubt that it's AFCAD 2.21. I have been adding parking to quite a few APs in the past few days and have not had a problem. There is an entry in the AFCAD2.INI file with the name NextUpdateNotice=7. I haven't tried it but I suspect that if you change this value it will then change the 'not updated in' message accordingly.Soldier's suggestion is a good one as this problem looks like a conflict.Check if any Exclude BGL's were added to the scenery folder by the addon and were left over.

It has to be Shez's scenery. Happened to me to for the first time. Tried everything I could think of, but it hangs everytime now. Never happened before. The scenery is fantastic by the way, and it blends great with Megascenery. Good job Shez. Just need to figure out why AFCAD cant collect and open the airports with it installed.

That is strange...have not used AFCAD for a while and as I am not an expert on it I did not attempt one for SNA. Maybe there is a conflict with one of the bgls. BTW there are three different methods of bgl creation used, one is SNAgrd (hand-coded), SNAmain (AFW3.0), and SNAmainsft (created by the 'bumpy' program by Arno G).RegardsShez

OK did some experimenting and it turns out the rogue file is SNAtaxisign.bgl. Remove it and it should be OK. This file was created using the 'createsign' program and either that is incompatible with AFCAD or the file name "SNAtaxisign" is too long. No idea...Shez
