Question regarding recording FSX

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

My friend, who is an aspiring musicia...er...he makes dubstep.. :Rolling Eyes: ..has requested me to record some acrobatics within FSX, and then send him the video so he can match it with a song he (presumably) mixed himself. Now, I know its possible, and I have FRAPS installed(but not used) on my computer, but I can never get a nice video recorded, as FRAPS suffers from some serious stutters for me..

Now my question is, are there any easier to use, smoother options? smoothness is the priority here

Thanks!

You should have a look at FSRecorder. You need to get one of the newer beta versions that have rendering capability. The beauty of it is that you don't need a super computer to get stutter free video at 30 FPS or more - it doesn't "capture" like Fraps does, it actually turns your sim into a video rendering application. It will spend as much time as it needs to render each frame perfectly, it may take half an hour to render 15 minutes of video depending on your system specs and rendering size/quality. On fast systems using low quality settings it can actually render video faster than real time. The downside is that FSRecorder doesn't capture sound, however you can replay the flight once more and record it with something like the windows sound recorder, then dub it into the video.

Here's a quick one I made flying the R22 in NZSI (no post-processing or sound but pretty smooth):

have never tried it but this freeware version.

http://camstudio.org/

This right here looks to be a good option, but if it doesn't work I will look at other options, thanks guys!

how is FRAPS when it comes to recording video? I have the full version but only have used it for taking screenshots? and what is the preferred hotkey to start/stop video recording?

I believe that camstudio freeware version is put out by techsmith folks.
