October 9, 201213 yr Going on a week now where I have encountered slow load times on FSX splash screen, Orbx "FTX Central" and even IE9 take terribly long to load. While updating my NVIDIA driver the screen went black and would not recover, long story short I ended up having to perform a system restore and since then I have been having issues. Is this a registry fix candidate using the Flight1 repair tool or is it something else? Thanks. \Robert Hamlich/
October 10, 201213 yr I would also suggest downloading AppCrashView and see if you have any related to FSX - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html. You can run that registry tool from Flight One. It won't hurt your current installation. I doubt you have a registry issue though. I had a hard time installing the latest Nvidia drivers too but never got the black screen. It took me a couple of weeks to get them installed properly. Most likely you have a fsx.cfg problem. The best solution to check for slow startups or unexplained FSX occurrences is to rename your FSX.cfg to FSX.orig then restart FSX and let it rebuild. If things work better then you know where to look. If it doesn't improve things, you can always go back and rename the fsx.orig back to fsx.cfg. October 10, 201213 yr Author Hi TechGuy and Jim, Thanks for replying. I looked at the Eventviewer and there are numerous error's around the suspected time and date and appcrashview shows "svchost.exe" corruption. Microsoft Security Client also shows antimalware signature's failing to load. This may all be leading to a bug perhaps. I am going to run MSE on a full scan tonight and see what the results say. Thanks. \Robert Hamlich/
October 10, 201213 yr virus is likely, you should use another tool though since it sounds like MSE is either malfunctioning (disabled by the virus) or unable to deal with it. Try TDSS killer and move on to combo fix.
October 10, 201213 yr Author Ran MSE last night and I returned to my PC to find that Windows update had run and restarted the computer. I had disabled download and auto install of updates prior to using the system restore but when I rolled the computer back I forgot to check the settings. I ran TDSSKiller and it did not find anything and I am running a scan using MalwareBytes while I am at work today. Let's see what it says. \Robert Hamlich/
October 10, 201213 yr Forgot to mention before that when you run TDSS you need to check the two boxes at the bottom to get a more thorough scan.
October 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member Let us know how it goes, but if you do have a virus your best bet is to start clean. I'm not really a fan of restores but thats just me... Repaint Requests - Get your OWN custom repaint
October 10, 201213 yr Author Forgot to mention before that when you run TDSS you need to check the two boxes at the bottom to get a more thorough scan. Will give that a try and report back. Let us know how it goes, but if you do have a virus your best bet is to start clean. I'm not really a fan of restores but thats just me... I agree, I am using an SSD with Intel IRST, computer is overclocked and it currently has oodles of addons... 18 hours of installation just for the Scenery Tech data alone not to mention that I had the help of the late Micheal Greenblatt of FS-GS who was just a call away if I ran into problems. I have good notes on how to do some of the things but just the thought of going into the BIOS to record the settings makes me nervous. \Robert Hamlich/
October 11, 201213 yr You should also scan your system for corrupted files by running sfc \scannow in the Run command. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! October 11, 201213 yr Author Evening everyone, First off, I ran malwarebytes anti-malware and it found 7 items: Files Detected: 7 C:\OpusFSX\FSOPUS.DLL (Trojan.Scar) -> No action taken. C:\Program Files (x86)\HOTAS\FoxyNUMLon.exe (Trojan.Downloader.VB) -> No action taken. C:\Users\Robert\Downloads\Aerosoft FBW Mod\aerosoft.airbus.x.fbw.code.patcher-patchv1.0alpha1aA320CFM\aerosoft.airbus.x.fbw.code.patcher-patchv1.0alpha1aA320CFM.exe (PUP.Hacktool.Patcher) -> No action taken. C:\Users\Robert\Downloads\Aerosoft FBW Mod\FBWCODEBETAv1.0alpha1g\aerosoft.airbus.x.fbw.code.patcher-patchv1.0alpha1gA320IAE.exe (PUP.Hacktool.Patcher) -> No action taken. C:\Users\Robert\Downloads\Aerosoft FBW Mod\FBWCODEBETAv1.0alpha1g\aerosoft.airbus.x.fbw.code.patcher-patchv1.0alpha1gA321CFM.exe (PUP.Hacktool.Patcher) -> No action taken. C:\Users\Robert\Downloads\Aerosoft FBW Mod\FBWCODEBETAv1.0alpha1g\aerosoft.airbus.x.fbw.code.patcher-uninstaller.exe (PUP.Hacktool.Patcher) -> No action taken. These all could very well be false positives. I expected files from some freeware airport sceneries that I have installed to come up on the list rather than the ones I have been presented with. I then ran the Kaspersky tdsskiller and it found 2 generic files that were deleted. Finally I ran sfc /scannow from the elevated command prompt and nothing was found. I guess that is all I can hope for at this point, thanks again to everyone who provided help. \Robert Hamlich/
October 11, 201213 yr Commercial Member Yeah indeed those look like they could be false positives. For some reason Malwarebytes anti malware also thinks that some DLL of QW birds is a trojan, every time when I have it running and select either QW 757 or Avro it warns me about that.
October 14, 201213 yr Author A quick follow-up. I booted to safe mode with networking and wouldn't you know it the computer runs fine. FSX loads in its normal time and internet explorer loads as it used to etc. I typed msconfig and selected the Services tab and placed a checkmark in "Hide all Microsoft services", everything was stopped. Once I rebooted I tried msconfig again and unchecked one program at a time by removing the check and selecting "Apply" then the date and time that it was disabled was noted. Each time I tried internet explorer it was back to loading slowly as it was before. It is interesting to note that Google Chrome is not affected. I am not sure if it is a non windows program, I tried disabling Microsoft Security Essentials but that had no effect on the issue. I would like to get to the bottom of this as I have bought a new video card and would like to install it and the drivers without any issues. Here are some screen shots which are edited to provide the required content: Safe Mode - Services Normal Mode - Services Safe Mode - Startup Normal Mode - Startup \Robert Hamlich/
October 14, 201213 yr System running okay in Safe mode indicates a driver or hardware is having issues. I would disable everything under the Startup tab. None of them are required/needed to run your system. You can reenable them one at a time until you find the problem but I would leave them all disabled. They are only used by the developers to maybe run updates when you first start up or run a schedule. The ones under services are another story. The Adobe and Google entries can safely be left unchecked though. I'm concerned about your findings in post #4 and those should be resolved. In my Event Viewer, under Custom Views>Administrative Events, it shows every event in the order of the error or the "event". So it could be a sound card having an issue then FSX having an issue then the HDD have an error. Those types of things need to be resolved. The one service that is corrupted you need to discover and fix. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! October 15, 201213 yr Author Hi Jim, I have tried the Event Viewer\Custom Events\Administrative Events. There is one issue that is sticking out as being the culprit. First I received an error: Dhcp-Client Computer was not assigned an address from the network (by DHCP Server) for the Network Card... Computer will try to obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server. Then a warning: DNS Client Events .net timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded. It seems like it wasn't long after a Windows Update that I began experiencing issues. \Robert Hamlich/
