October 12, 201213 yr I tested again this morning, it's definitely less stutters with 4.9 vs 4.8GHz, no placebo at all. I looked to the left after take off, to airports buildings and - at 4.8 is a slideshow That's weird right there. You have frame rates of 24-26 and 'it's a slideshow'? I think something else is amiss in your configuration as you should not be seeing slideshows at those frame rates. I have a paltry Q9650 at 3.8Ghz and never see slideshows at those frame rates on the ground. Something is amiss I feel... At 4.8GHz when take off, if i look straight ahead, everything is fine. But immediately after TO, if i look to the left or to the right, i can see a lot of stutters, that is the slideshow I'm talking about. And it's really hard to watch the buildings(for eyes). At 4.9GHz i don't have that stutters anymore, and i can look to the buildings. This is why i say that probably 2-3fps makes difference for me at this settings. I have my old E7200, i never saw this stutters on that machine, but most of my sliders was to the left, for performance. Now i have almost all sliders to the right, everything is set like in Word Not Allowed's guide. So, i don't think that you can have better performance @3.8GHz, really. We probablly don't speak about the same settings Zeljko Budovic
October 12, 201213 yr I read some articles that is not good to go above 1.45 for 24/7 on Air/Water. I leave it for now at 4.9 and 1.4vcore, and next year i'll go for 5GHz 24/7, becouse next year i can go for new CPU if degradation occurs. I might want to look into the Intel CPU Insurance program. If I was covered with that, I wouldn't fear send my chip to 1.5Volts anymore...
October 12, 201213 yr I might want to look into the Intel CPU Insurance program. If I was covered with that, I wouldn't fear send my chip to 1.5Volts anymore... That's ok, i have intel tuning plan protection, but i realised that i am covered only if my CPU die, not for degradation. Vcore above 1.52 is not covered too(i don't know if they can check this). The problem is that CPU will not die, but will require more and more vcore to be stable, and maybe you want be able to get 4.7GHz anymore after that...And nobody will change your CPU, becouse it's functional. So, in that case, i woul'd move my CPU to another PC and run it at stock settings for a long time, and would buy new 3770k for fsx , becouse i read last evening that is more unlocked than sandy bridge and more efficient at the same clock Zeljko Budovic
October 12, 201213 yr Had so much parts over that à only by à new MoBo for the 2700k , My leftovers after à bench fsmark11 was: Corsair chassi H100 2133 Gskill ripjaws cl8 Evga 670 4gb 2700k Have à hard disk and à PSU 650w only need à MoBo Bought à GA Z-77 UD3H Have that overkill PC for instruments networked to main FSX P3D PC Its à Very good 2700k , only need 1.49v for 5.2ghz at 5.35 1.51v the Imc voltag is more critical more CPUs died with to high imc voltage. 3770k is running at -36c it need 1.43v at 5.4ghz http://

October 12, 201213 yr the Imc voltag is more critical more CPUs died with to high imc voltage. IMC voltage = DRAM voltage on ASSUS, right? I have this manually seted at specification recommended 1.5 I didn't know that CPU can die becouse of DRAM voltage Well maybe once it starts to degrade, pull off the water cooler and run it with some air cooler and let it die! :LMAO: It's easy for you, i have air cooler right now! :Waiting: Zeljko Budovic

IMC voltage is controlled by VCCSA and VTT/VCCIO.
October 13, 201213 yr I upped my 3930k from 4.6 to 4.8 an noticed no performance increase. In fact I deeply regret getting this 3930k instead of a normal Sandybridge. I could have oc'd better then. I wonder if I can disable two of the 6 cores and get better stability.

October 13, 201213 yr The two extra cores will help with texture loading... I'd leave them on honestly... Yea true, I'm not sure it will help much anyhow tbh. Hey Ben out of interest on your CPU what settings besides Vcore do you have to increase to get stable at 4.9? I put my Vcore up to 1.54 (yes I know it's too high) but still couldn't get 4.9 stable on my CPU. I know we have different models entirely but it would just be good to know if there are any other things that could be changed. For the moment I've put it back to 4.6 @ 1.45 Vcore which has always been rock solid in terms of stability.

So much that it is difficult to explain. I reccomend following one of the guides online about SB-E overclocking.

I reccomend following one of the guides online about SB-E overclocking. That's what I was afraid of =(. I had a look at this one: http://www.overclock.net/t/1189242/sandy-bridge-e-overclocking-guide-walk-through-explanations-and-support-for-all-x79-overclockers But knowing as much about CPU architecture as I do (i.e. very little) a lot of the extra settings don't make sense to me (i.e. Phase Loop Lock control or whatever it is). I could probably figure more out my doing some additional research. Too bad there aren't more people on these forums that own these CPU's.

I felt the same way when I started OC'ing on the Bloomfield CPUs 2 and a half years ago... I was clueless and I began my endeavor by googling and finding guides etc. After a few months of tinkering with various settings and lots of testing, I finally began to master the art of OCing. Honestly, with practice, OCing is very easy on the SB CPUs.
