ENB series mod obsolete with DX10?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I will be working on the DX10 tonight, I was just wondering if I should keep this mod or not?

The ENB series, sadly, doesn't work in DX10 because it is coded specifically for DX9 only. I wish it weren't the case though, it can still make the graphics look much nicer <_<

Are the nights really bright in DX10 then?

FYI: Not sure if your talking about ENB the addon, or a config tip, but SHADE (addon) DOES work in DX10.

Thanks for that tip Hawk: it'll go It's been included in the doc..

Nights in my setup are not over-blown (sky and water are very dark). Another positive that I've noticed with DX-10 is that the stars are brighter and easier to see. The only negative I have with the stars are their reflection on the water. It's annoying and ugly to me.

Did you specifically set something up for the nights to be dark? One of the reasons I love ENB was that I was able to make the night as bright as I wanted.

I don't know if I get used to the bright nights, can't stand it, took off at ORD in the NGX just to see stars as I'd see 'em at 5500ft somewhere in Utah. I like this mod but I like dark nights better.

Yeah ENB doesn't work in DX10 hence why I started a thread asking about how to change the contrast using Shade instead. Haven't had much of a response though.

@TurboT - You need to remember - this is not the main FSX forum, with (at this moment - 53 users) browsing the posts! We are still a tiny group of enthusiasts that are learning the ropes of DX10, with a single guy working in the background (Steve) who will periodically add another fixed feature to the patch!

Personally - I'm trying to get a "Flying the Pacific North-West" (or something like that) video out, which will appeal to some of the nay-sayers, and offer living proof of the viability of DX10 as an alternate to P3D, and as an awesome improvement over the current DX9. My immediate issue is the use of a 3840 x 1024 TH2Go - too many pixels, and wrong size, so I need a monitor of 1920 x 1200, and that ain't gonna happen. Turning this into a DualHead2Go works, but still too many pixels, so today I will work at a single 1280 x 1024 (which I know the 580 will handle) and then see how it can be doctored to look right for YouTube. My time is spoken for, for at least three - four days, doing this, plus being a member of the normal human species that live outside of FSX!!!

I do have Shade, yes - but to test it will take the better part of the morning, just as testing FSWCLite did. I am very glad to see that Brett, Jim, JimH, Les and a number of others are, and have been actively working at the issues which have crossed our path, but it takes a good number of users and a bunch of testing to come up with something that is accurate that everyone can use. That doc of mine has about fifty revisions in it since it's first posting, and I'm also learning every day.

That all said - I suppose the gist of my post here, Turbo, is - Shade is a good addon for FSX, whether DX9 or DX10, and costs just ten bucks, so go get it, do the necessary testing and post back here! You won't lose anything, and will contribute some good, new knowledge that will help potentially hundreds of others. :good:

Thanks, and all the best!

I don't think I set up anything differently. I do use "Shade", though, but I'm not sure if it makes a difference regarding making the sky and waters dark at night. I am running the latest Nvidia drivers.

The only time I've seen it otherwise is when it's raining and there's a low cloud ceiling. Then the sky glows in a golden hue. Definitely not realistic but once you break through the cloud ceiling, everthing gets dark again. I'll try to take and post some screenshots, when I have a chance.

I am aware of that, hence why I asked the question about Shade and contrast in the main FSX forum rather than here as it's a non-DX10 specific question anyway.

I'd love to be able to do some testing but I simply don't have the time at the moment - I barely get a handful of at best 45 min sessions a week, therefore I'd rather just get on and fly!

No sweat, Man: no offense intended. Do you have Shade?

None read in the first place, or taken :P Just reflecting my position of having a full time job with an hour commute each way, 7 month old and trying not too annoy the other half too much as well!

I do have Shade, yes, and it was definitely one of the best $10s I've ever spent on FSX. I'd like a little more contrast in my experience (everything seems to have the brightness turned up to '11' by default) and am happy to have the cockpit a bit dark as a tradeoff. Just don't know which of the (many) presets in Shade to go for!
