October 25, 201213 yr Commercial Member AC20-138C, appendix A, for those of you that like legalese Haha - cool. Thanks for the reference. I'll go check it out. Kyle Rodgers
October 25, 201213 yr It's a somewhat oblique reference, since AC20-138C deals with certifying your avionics. Appendix A just makes it clear it is acceptable to only have a GPS. I couldn't find the actual ruling. John-Alan Pascoe
October 25, 201213 yr ;If the T7 doesn't have IRS, then how does it navigate Hehe, it has a different system called "AIDRU" If you fly the NGX or any other Boeing you'll see the IRS has quite a few switches and dials. Whereas in the 777 it's just one button to hit :-) - Luke Pabari
October 25, 201213 yr On Youtube there is a 8 part 777 Cockpit Prep video. It's pretty good and shows how automated the 777 is. There's some strange stuff on the 777 that I have not a clue how the geniuses at PMDG will replicate. Paul Gugliotta
October 26, 201213 yr Hehe, it has a different system called "AIDRU" If you fly the NGX or any other Boeing you'll see the IRS has quite a few switches and dials. Whereas in the 777 it's just one button to hit :-) Meh, an ADIRU is just an IRS with some other bits stuck on. Ok, that statement is a bit simplistic, but an Air Data Inertial Reference Unit will still include an Inertial Reference System, just as a component of a larger system that also includes an Air Data Reference. Navigation is still done by integrating the accelerations experienced by the aircraft. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, don't get unduly confused by the marketing guys telling you it's a member of the Anatidae family I say. John-Alan Pascoe
