November 10, 201213 yr Has anyone had a chance to see Skyfall yet? Daniel Craig and this series has really brought the 007 franchise to a serious, entertaining level (in the spirit of the original Fleming novels). Quantum of Solace was a real disappointment after the wonderful Casino Royale movie, but I'm hearing Skyfall does the series justice. I'm off to watch it tonight. Wish me luck! ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
November 12, 201213 yr Hi. A superb return to the atmosphere of the earliest Bond films. I watched it at the local flea-pit; they were turning people away shortly after I arrived. It starts with attention-grabbing action (I confess that did have me worried that I was about to experience another brainless Quantum of Solace with an average shot length of less than one second). The return to roots is apparent from the opening credits onward, but my attention didn't waver until the lights went back up. Plenty of action, but in spirit I think it's a thriller, as Fleming may have regarded his novels. Daniel Craig apparently has one more to make-- I hope he's retained for a couple beyond that, though the white stubble on his chin was a big surprise. Regards, D
November 12, 201213 yr Well it's good to hear that the film has gone back to it's roots, although I have heard that term before. Personally, I have no time for these silly movies that treat their audience like brainless morons and assume they have an attention span of a goldfish. I know a lot of people thought Casino Royale was monotonous, but there ya go, I really enjoyed it and as you say Dave, I agree, Quantum of Solace was a massive disappointment. So if Skyfall offers us a film with an interesting and realistic storyline, with good acting and realisitc action sequences, without a load of CGI nonsense, then maybe I'll give it a shot. Let us all know your thoughts Zach... and don't eat too much popcorn! November 12, 201213 yr Just saw it last night and i liked it very much. Good storyline, good action and a very good climax and ending (kind of a surprise.....) I hope they keep Craig for a couple of more too, the white stubble was gone with that shave lol I think if you are a Bond fan, you won't be disappointed Lee
November 12, 201213 yr Oh dear. I thought it was really poor. Best way I can describe it is "milking the Bond brand". Good 2 hours of action but absolutely no plot and old icons (such as the DB5) thrown in for good measure without any real explanation. Making Daniel do the cheezy one-liners was terrible, they simply don't fit with his Bond. Sorry!

While I totally agree with your sentiment I think we are supposed to switch off the "reality" button when it comes to watching these movies, something I find incredibly difficult to do. In fact when I decide to watch something like this I am under strict orders to either stay silent or leave the room. Just this weekend I witnessed a TV re-run of Air Force One.............................. I left the room Anthony O'Brien
November 12, 201213 yr While I totally agree with your sentiment I think we are supposed to switch off the "reality" button when it comes to watching these movies, something I find incredibly difficult to do. Sure, while I agree, I nevertheless always feel that, regardless of how unlikely a film may be, unless it's ScFi, IMO there must always be some degree of... 'well I guess it could happen' in the storyline. November 12, 201213 yr Author Oh dear. I thought it was really poor. Best way I can describe it is "milking the Bond brand". Making Daniel do the cheezy one-liners was terrible, they simply don't fit with his Bond. Sorry! In a way, I agree with you. Daniel Craig is a serious Bond and the cheesy, hokey one-liners didn't do much for me. The obvious throwbacks to older Bond flicks (a certain Goldfinger car, Q's jokes, etc.) sort of took away from my experience. I like Daniel Craig because he's a new, more realistic Bond -- can't we keep him away from the cheesy stuff? On the other hand, I enjoyed the movie on the whole. The "classic" introduction (song by Adele) is my favorite of all time, now. Wow, that intro almost brought tears to my nerdy eyes! The cinematography is perfect, the stunts are great, the villain is excellent, the story is enthralling, and the Bond chicks HOT beautiful. This Bond flick is good, and I enjoyed it! A certain moment earlier in the movie had every one gasp; We were all hooked. Definitely a top 3 Bond film for me. Sure, while I agree, I nevertheless always feel that, regardless of how unlikely a film may be, unless it's ScFi, IMO there must always be some degree of... 'well I guess it could happen' in the storyline. I feel the same way. I reckon that's why Pierce Brosnan never did anything for me. The introduction... Wow, so emotional: (WARNING--SORT OF SPOILER) EDIT: I removed the Youtube link as it may have been a copyright infringement. Sorry, folks. Take my word for it, it's a great intro! Lastly... I sure do have an urge to purchase a Walther PPK/S now... ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
